Legends of Belariath

Miyuka

Born to a Moriel mother and Vulpine Father, Miyuka's first few years were spent on the run as her mother and father were wanted criminals: their crimes, aside from giving birth to a half-breed child consisted of murder, espionage and even treason. Miyuka would never get to know her parents as they were ripped from her in a bloody battle as they were caught whilst passing through the desert.

Miyuka bore witness to the blood bath as she was forced to watch the moriel soldiers cut her parents down. Miyuka was left, considered not worth the effort as the desert would surely claim her. For hours she just sat there while the sands soaked up the blood of her mother and father. She cried for what seemed like hours: scared, confused and not knowing what she should do.

Something within her told her to move. She wasn't sure why, but her will to live had kicked in and she got up off her ass and began moving, the desert would claim her if she just sat there. She was young, but her survival insticts were naturally sharp and she was going to find out very quickly just how sharp. As she traveled for what felt like an eternity through the shifting sands, Miyuka came upon a cave that had a rather large opening.

She had no idea what it was that she felt, but the cave was somehow welcoming to her. The moment she stepped inside the cave and began exploring it's vast tunnels, her feeling of dread had dissappeared, replaced by what she could only describe as a comforting feeling. Magic...that's what it was, the place was simply brimming with the essence of magic, and it awoke something inside Her.

Just when she thought things were looking up, a massive claw came down upon her, pinning her to the floor of the cave and just barely piercing her skin. Miyuka cried out from the pain and looked about frantically, her eyes focusing on an incredibly large-sized Dragon. This would have been a horrific end to her tale, but death was not to be her fate; her will to live was strong and despite the impossible odds stacked against her, Miyuka became angered and let out an ear-piercing scream that released a Banshee's cry spell that causing the dragon just a slight annoyance, but it was enough to allow her to slip free of his claw.

Miyuka backed herself up against a cave wall, bewildered at the fact that she was still alive and that she had screamed out so loudly to have affected the grand creature before her, even if the spell hadn't really done much. For a moment, the two just stared at one another, Miyuka trembling just a bit in the presence of the dragon, but still, she had that warm feeling within her.

"Sorry..." Miyuka's cute voice rang out suddenly. She didn't know what else to say. She found that she didn't really have any hostile feelings towards the great dragon. She wasn't sure why she assumed the dragon would even be able to speak in the common tongue, but it was all she knew, and just barely, for that matter.

She was then very surprised to hear the dragon chuckle at her simple words. Maybe the dragon had found the girl to be irresistably cute, mayhap he felt mercy for her situation, or maybe it was because he saw potential within her but, either way, instead of killing her, the dragon had decided to spare Miyuka's life...with a stipulation, of course.

"You are either very brave or incredibly foolish, to sneak into my lair and attempt such pathetic spells on me," the dragon spoke. "I should crush you where you stand, but I could use the entertainment. Tell me your name and make a pact with me and you'll live a bit longer. I may even teach you some things."

Miyuka looked up at him, trying to comprehend most of what was just said to her. Bits and pieces of it, she had understood. "Anita." She says to the bronze dragon and suddenly smiled at him, the girl's face and clothes still stained with the blood of her parents, she adds. "What is your name sir?"

The great dragon leant in and eyed Miyuka suspiciously. "You are going to make the next few decades of my life most intersting, Anita. If you must know, my name is Zakerverain, but you will refer to me as Master. My cave will be your new home and for the exchange of turning your pathetic magics into something worthwild you will serve me however I see fit. Do you understand?"

The adorable little halfbreed tilted her head whilst she pondered. "Za...kir...Zakir...Zakky!" she found pronouncing his name to be much too difficult so she gave him a nickname that made the bronze dragon frown.

"Zakerverain!" he exclaimed. "Now accept my pact or be gone out of my cave and roam the desert for eternity!"

Miyuka eeped and stood up straight and tryied to not look so timid. "Yes, I accept your pact...thing." She wasn't really sure what the definition of that word was, but if it meant she could spend more time with Zakerverain then she was all for it. "Thank you Mr. Zakky."

"How would you like it if I changed your name? From now on I will call you Miyuka," he said, picking the most random possible name he could recall from memory before realizing he had been so easily tricked into falling right into the adorable girls little game. "Go...wash that blood off. There's a pool of water further within the cave...foolish little girl. Whose blood is that anyway?"

For the first time since she had entered the cave, a feeling of sadness overtook Miyuka as thoughts of the horrific scene of her parents' murder flowed through her mind. She looked down at the cave floor for a moment, then back up at Zakerverain.

"Mommy...and daddy." She had no more tears to give, what was done was done, but the thought brought her to her knees. She closed her eyes for a moment and before she knew it, she had drifted off as if under a spell, which was the case as Zakerverain had cast a sleep spell on the girl. She could use the rest after the day she had just had.

When Miyuka finally came to, she was clean and dressed in a simple little dress that matched the color of Zakerverain's skin. The dragon was nowhere to be found, but had left Miyuka in what was apparently his treasure room as there were plenty of trinkets all around her. This was the source of that strange feeling that made her feel so good inside. Magic, both coming from this room and the dragon. Why'd it make her feel this way though? It was a question that Miyuka would never come to really undestand, but she accepted it.

Years turned to decades and decades turned to a century, Miyuka spending her life learning all she could from Zakerverain and in return, she would leave the cave for days, weeks, or months at a time in search of precious artifacts or just simple information for the Bronze dragon. She would be known as Anita The Sorceress, sought after by many a tribe and warlord for her magical expertise, though no one knew where she came from or where she went. Some would try to follow her back whenever she returned to her home, but those who followed never returned.

Just as mysteriously as she had appeared, one day, Anita the sorceress had dissappeared. Only Zakerverain knew of what had happened to her, that she had let loose a spell most powerful, unable to tame her own magics and nearly killed herself in the resulting explosion of magical energy. Her mind and memories had been warped and taken from her, but she still lived...someday, she would unlock her hidden memories and return, but that day would come only should Zakerverain wish it to be. For now, he'd just watch from afar as his little Anita, now known throughout the Empire of Stormbringer as Miyuka, lived her life and grew to power.
