Legends of Belariath

Arachinia

Arachinia was born to a Drow mother and human father. Her mother had been with a raiding party taken down before they could attack the village by a group of adventurers that included her father. Her father had kept her mother as a slave but fell in love with the beautiful dark skinned elf freeing her so they could be married. Arachinia was born soon after unfortunately her mother died in child birth. Her father raised her to be a warrior and she was accepted by the village so for a while the young half-Drow had no idea her mother’s race was so despised by most other races. She turned out to be a gifted warrior taking joy in her ability with the whip and dagger. Her father designed special gauntlets that could become crossbows at a flick of her wrists. Arachinia started having dreams of spiders when she entered her teen years, not of Loth, Demon Queen of Spiders but disturbing none the less. Her father told her never to tell anyone about the fact spiders seemed to be attracted to her, gently at her touch or voice. She’d considered becoming a town guardian when her magic talent first made itself known. It was decided she’d seek training but found no local mage was willing to train her because she was half-Drow. It was the first time she had any inkling of the truth of her mother’s race. Before she left, her father gave her the swords her mother had carried with spiders on the hilts and black steel blades. Arachinia went forth determined to be the best warrior/mage ever known.

Arachinia came to know to well what her mother’s race was considered by those of the surface. It made no difference she was raised by humans with only a little of her mother’s race abilities. The young half-Drow became angry to be judged by her skin before others even speak to her. She has been accused of being an assassin and even had some who came to her to hire her as an assassin. Her youthful idealism has been tarnished somewhat by her experiences out in the real world. She can have a low tolerance for people staring at her, quick to use her whip to ‘teach’ fools not to underestimate her. She was on the run from an allegedly assassinating a lord of a city. Arachinia had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and made of an easy scapegoat. The young woman has vowed to prove her innocence but hides out for the time being in The Lonely Inn.
