Legends of Belariath

Aramis

Having been born the sixth son and eighth child of a major Noble family was never truly easy for Aramis Loawithe of Argus. Due to the fact that Argus laid outside of the Empire of Stormbringer, his father, Melchor Loawithe, always made sure that all of his children were well educated in ettiquette, social foibles, and the latest sciences and magic lore. As a result, Aramis didn't have much time to spend with other children, and his own family treated him more as a commodity than a person. He had all the latest gadgets, best toys, and finest clothing, but nobody to talk to. His own brothers and sisters treated him more like a slave or an insect to pick on and ridicule, than a family member. His only reprieve would be on the rare nights when his mother, Shari, would come and sing him to sleep with a sad slow elven song of loss. He still has that valuable memory kept close and memorized.

One day, when he was just shy of his teen years, his father suddenly starting showing an interest in him, laughing and practically dancing around, rambling on what a great union was about to be created. Aramis, now long since suspicious of any attention not directed towards either his eldest brother, who was to be the next Lord, or his second eldest brother, the knight, paid close attention and realized that his father was talking about an engagement to Electra Rosa, leading to an arranged marriage when the two come of age. Aramis agreed, and immediately set about sabotaging it at every chance, merely out of sheer spite and anger at his father. When the engagement was finally ended by a broken hearted Electra, Aramis realized what he had done and the repercussions, he realized that he had loved her in return and ruined things with her.

His father was furious by the results of the broken engagement and beat Aramis severely, collaring him and treating him like a slave for almost a full year before Boramir Crissius, his maternal grandfather and the immensely successful merchant, arrived and talked Melchor into enrolling Aramis into Tennero Academy, the prestigious school of Magic within Argus. Boramir's reasoning was that if Aramis showed a talent with magic, he could work as a merchant for Boramir and if some of his magic just happened to resemble some sort of accident and sabotage their opponents' goods, then perhaps they'll buy from the Crissius mercantile instead. Therefore, his father pulled some strings with the school and got Aramis enrolled, throwing around the fact that he was a “Council Noble”.

Aramis did indeed excel in his magic studies, well enough to consider magic to be a gift to be treasured and a life path to pursue. His teachers were exceptionally pleased and kept giving him more and more lore to study and learn. As other people learned of his identity, they either flocked to him or shunned him. In his mind, the ones who flocked around him were mere sycophants, only wanting to know him due to his status, just as bad as the ones who shunned him, if not worse for their hypocrisy. Tired and saddened, he ended up shutting himself away from the other students, retreating to the library or his private room to be alone and away from the others. He spent three lonely years like this, only coming home for the yule season and other important events, such as the births of his nephews and neices. Otherwise, Aramis remained a distant, lonely, and cold man, burdened by an overwhelming depression.

At the end of his studies, three years later, leaving him a young man of sixteen summers, his grandfather approached him about working in the business. Not realizing Boramir's true intentions, he happily agreed, as it would allow him the chance to get out and meet new people, people who didn't know or care who he was. He worked this occupation for another six months, learning the trade, travelling far from home, from the Island Nation of Islasoros all the way across to the elven nation of Verdspar. While in Verdspar, he found himself fascinated by the amount and breadth of history, sneaking into their library, which dwarfed even the one back at Tennero Academy. Unfortunately, since they were all written in Elven, he found himself unable to read any of them. This enflamed his spark of curiosity into a roaring bonfire.

Now, being led by his curiosity, he wandered the lands, following any lead of anything that might sound fascinating. He finally made his way back home, two and a half years later, where he was approached by his father and his grandfather. They told him of their intentions and what they desired of him. Appalled by their request, he refused, infuriating them. His grandfather fired him and his father went a step further by disowning him and forcing him to leave his house in shame. Aramis fled, taking what he could, leaving Argus and vowing never to return, disgusted with Nobles and their mentality.

Wandering the lands for another four years, he once again allowed his curiosity to lead him, following any obscure lore, history, or magic. He despaired when the time of no magic arrived, but immersed himself fully into his adventures as a result. Hearing about a giant attacking the tower of magic of Nanthalion, the capital city of the Empire of Stormbringer, and the results of that attack, he followed his curiosity, same as always, never expecting to find more than enough within the city to occupy his attentions as long as they have...

Now, Aramis resides within the tower of Unigo, having attained the status of Aeromancer. He seems relaxed and contented, a man who follows his whims, but remains loyal to those he holds close, such as his mate and wife, Serani, and his three slaves, Branwyn, Eloin, and Liyalai. He is normally a pacifist, but will and can fight to protect and aid those he deems important and intriguing. Always curious, always amused, and ever the flighty one, he can be a study in contrasts, never keeping a set schedule and always spontaneous.
