Legends of Belariath

Drakar

How it all Began

An ethereal light floats a deep green color in a dark void as a dream is incognated.”Drakar” the celestial voice of the elder dragon of earth spoke “it is time, time for you to go and fulfill your destiny and to do my will go and learn much my child for the time of your judgment will be your greatest hour.” and with that the light zipped from the heavens speeding towards the land below. Thunder rolled and lightning flashed and a streak of light cascaded down descending to the great mountain top of the Fabled Mountains of the Mist. Then he awoke....Born under the spring time rains in the Mountains of the Mist a small wail of a child could be heard. Wrapped in nothing more then a Dark Green cloak the babe Draksen wailed and cried for its companion wanting to feel its lost touch once more but the only thing that comforted the poor child was a sound upon the wind a gentle humming that would lull the babe to sleep and calm his suffering. Even at an early again Drakar was attune to his surroundings as a child always smiling and laughing and playing upon the top of the mountain with the local beasts, his features were of a real simple a long dark brown down to his shoulders and kept free, two small horns peeked out from under his bangs, and a patch of three dark green scales adorned his left cheek and both shoulders two large wings folded back against him a little awkward for now but he thought of some use for sort dark green skin covered his body, his hair them someday, and long dark green tail swung of from behind him as he walked, wandering around up there on the mountain top, always cheerful naked as nature itself he didn’t mind as he would go to the spring near the top of the mountain to bath he had a vision”Drakar?”the angelic voice spoke as he perked and brow and stopped playing “its time my child time for you to move on and find your place in this world” a light shimmered to the place where his huge cloak lay and in it was a staff, a loincloth, and a pouch “take the flowers of Aversoa with you my child help those that need its healing powers and spread peace to the places you go, be well my child, I will see you when you come home to me” with that the voice winked out upon the wind as Drakar sat there and sighed. What was he to do he had never been out on his own before, as he sniffled and began to tear up the humming he heard once more as a child caught his ear and he knew that he could never feel truly alone that she would always be there to comfort him, as he donned his somewhat over sized garbs he knew that they would fit him someday, he picked the petals off the flower and placed them in his pouch, and the young draksen started down the side of the mountain towards the valley below. His love for nature and all it stood for was unbound he grew up quick and grew up alone deep within the forests below save for the beast and plants that lived and grew there. his many trials and errors had taught him well about the many different races that lived there as he ventured further west to the town of Nathalion, now that population threatens to take his sanctuary away from him, while walking thru the forest he came upon a little cove off the side of the road a modest little opening in the forest with flowers that seem yet in bloom and bushes always ripe with berries and trees that indeed the edge of the lakeshore. Drakar smiled as he looked at all of this his dark green eyes twinkling this was his place of peace a nice big lake stretched out behind the trees that was heated by a hot spring underneath it and one above it from a cascading waterfall in the backdrop off the cliffs. The now grown Draksen nodded to himself as he thinks “this is what my elder dragons wishes me to keep safe” he says “then I must see what I need to keep this and all the forest safe from” nods to this as he turn and went forth in search of knowledge of this town called Nathalion and its occupants within its walls. His first stop was that of the Inn where he met with a lovely Paladin that befriended him almost instantly named Morrigan Steel and a nymph by the name of Amythyst, both very beautiful very fine friends that a lonely Draksen like Drakar could ever wish for. Amy taught Drakar allot about the societies and whom to seek out and who to avoid and Morrigan provided him with a room at the inn and requested him a job as a bartender which he works as also to this very day giving an ear and a friendly smile to the patrons that come and visit him. This is not the end to a story nor the middle but is only just beginning to unfold as Drakar will be put to the test many times and find many adventures with his friends of the forest and the town.(The End for now.....)

The Quest

By

Drakar

The deep green earthen would rush to the site of where the wailing and screaming too place as he would shake his head a little to the sight before him. Taking a hold of the females arm he would scowl a little as he gently took the flower and would shake his head a little before trying to replace it back to where its roots still lay. Chanting lowly as the woman would scowl to him hands on hips as his hands would glow trying to mend together the plant and bring it back to life. “Hey you! Why did you take my flower away from me I was gonna use that?” She says obviously upset from the draksen up and snatching the flower the way he did as he ignored her for the most part for the moment. Drakar would look up to her and scowl a little “you were hurting this plants life force by tearing it from its roots” he said as he would rise slowly to which she would say “so? It’s a plant and plants don’t have feelings and besides I need it to get better” she says as she would try and go after the plant once more. Drakar’s hand would come down and grab her wrist as he wouldn’t allow it as he just got it back to life “plants do so have feeling little one even the smallest weed has a soul and has a voice those that are open to it can hear it” he would say as he looks down to her and would scowl a little bit “this plant is very rare and doing what your doing will surely make it meet its end” he says as he would frown a little. The girl obviously didn’t understand him as she would look to the plant and frown “but but what about the sickness that’s spreading, the guild says to pick this flower, boil it and drink the tea and you will be fine everybody in town is doing it” she says as she looks to him as Drakar would sigh “it isn’t the way young one there are better methods then taking a single type of plant for a cure, as there are hundreds of different remedies you can use for sicknesses and all around well being.”

As Drakar would walk along and talk with the peasant girl he would learn about this guild called the Valkrum Alchemy that was exclusively using this flower for all the remedies that they were providing for the community. Drakar would nod to the girl’s words as he hmms to himself thinking that a visit to the Alchemy was in order for the most part to get to the bottom of this problem before it became the end to the Crimson Tear. As Drakar walked through the town of Nathalion, he pondered on how he would approach this Alchemy with the news that its findings could very well mean the end to a whole forest, and if they would care or not what happened to it. Making his way along the dirty dusty roads of the town mingling among the common people, Drakar was quite the rare sight to most in the town with his cloak concealing his face save for those dark green glowing eyes, his wings folded under his cloak to give him a more humanoid appearance, the loincloth upon his lower extremities tied to his waist with a leather belt and buckle, his feet adorned with soft leather boots, and that dark green scaled tail of his flickering behind him as he walked along holding his staff as if it were a walking stick. He ignored the stares and whispers of most that would have something to say about the Sen, looking this way and that searching for this place where the potions were sold to the people of the town. Spotting the vendor of the potions Drakar would slowly make his way over to the man perking a brow from under his hood as he would reach out to touch the bottle only to get his hand whacked with a cane “uh uh uhhhhh”said the haughty man behind the counter “60 mhl a bottle and no touching till the price is paid in full” the man said with a scowl on his face. Drakar winces a little at the whack to his hand as he would rub it lightly and shake his head a little “I am not interested in buying lad but more or less educating” he says as he would scowl a little himself turning to the crowd gathered there “here me good people of the town, you need not buy this product to cure your symptoms I Drakar the hierophant of the forest have better methods for you to learn to cure your weak and ill and to strengthen your well beings, please heed my warnings do not buy of this potion for the plant that is used to make it is becoming extinct and without it the very life of your great forest is endanger!” He says as he looks about the people there as they would look to each other and laugh shouts of yea right what does he know about anything and get out of the way you foolish freak. The man behind the counter would growl lowly to the draksen that was disturbing his business as he would mumble something to the man standing next to him as he would nod to this holding a club in his hand and patting the blunt end of it in the other as Drakar desperately tried to get the crowd to listen to him. “please you don’t know what your doing if you hurt the ecosystem and the forest you all will be hurt gravely by its destruction” he would turn just in time to catch the end of the club knocking him square in the jaw sending the draksen sprawling to his knees and shaking his head a little his hood knocked back to reveal his small horns below his bangs and rich long black hair, as he looked up the two dark green eyes still glowed dimly but on his left cheek adorned three small scales of dark green. A think line of blood would run from his lips as he spat on the ground and would shake his head “I don’t want to hurt you sir” he says as he would rise to his feet slowly “but if you provoke me ill have to defend myself” he says with a small scowl as he would rub his mouth on the leather bracer on his wrist and turn to the crowd to say something only to get pushed to the ground again by the bouncer “stay down your freak otherwise you wont be getting up” the man chuckled as he stood there club in hand patting it in the other with a smile on his face as Drakar would ignore him picking himself up and dusting himself off as the man charged to his back Drakar would hear him coming a mile away and just closed his eyes as he waited, waited waited……now! Up from the dusty dirt road sprang a wall of tree roots that would coat the Sen from head to toe in a shield of sorts thorns of the hardest tempered wood would spring out to inflict some harm to the being that dared to strike its master as the man would swing getting his club stuck in the mess and his arm pricked a few hundred times as he screamed in pain before Drakar would let go of the spell the coat falling away disappearing beneath the earth once more as the man rolled about in the dirt clinging to his now bleeding arm. The man behind the counter taking all this in would up and run away leaving his bouncer to deal with his fate alone, Drakar would shake his head to this walking over to the man on the ground who would shy away from him now fearing the one he called a freak the most “go on get away from me” he said in a trembling voice. Drakar would stand over the man a little and leaning down on his knee he would reach out with his hand and touch the mans arm gently and close his eyes dark green energy would start to seep from the land about him as he would hmm a little collecting within the palm of the hand that touched the mans arm before dispersing into the male the wounds on the arm closing gaping holes sewing shut like new and within the amount of 5 seconds the arm looked as if it hadn’t been harmed at all. Drakar would nod to this as he stood up slowly and would sigh “I didn’t come here to harm anyone I came here to educate” he says as he would turn to the now hushed crowd “so who here is willing to listen to what I have to say hmm?”He asked as he watched the few heads start to nod then more and more along with that till the whole lot of them would gather around the Draksen to listen to what he had to say as he told of the methods much better then the crimson tear and how every one from the farmers to the hunters would hurt in trade and food for their families if they didn’t change their ways. Soon the whole town would know of this draksen and his want to teach the community his gifts of healing and herbs.

The man kept on running faster and harder with all his might to get away from the scene that happened in the center of town. Panting for breath, he would race towards the Valkrum Alchemy as fast as his legs would carry him they must know what to do about this. Reaching the huge doors to the dreary looking shop the man would bang on the doors till he got an answer from within “who goes there?” came the thunderous voice of a man, to which the man outside would cower away “its me Jaborick, t-t-there was a disturbance in town some freak a draksen or something came in and is turning the town against the guilds wishes he’s stopped the selling of the potions and harmed a man that was trying to defend me” he says in a squabbering voice. The voice inside would hmm to this and the doors slowly opened with a grinding groan of the hinges “enter my friend its time we talked about the price of failure” the sinister laughter would follow as the man screamed in agony never to be heard from again. The Valkrum Alchemy was ran by an evil man named Dublin that wanted nothing more then the hard earned money of the fools from the town and he was willing to get it any mean necessary. He had found that mixing the crimson tear plant in a bath of water would yield to him a source of healing remedies that the community would eat up, and he charged a bundle for them to have it. As he would walk along in his huge shop looking at the slave workers that went about working for pennies and making loads upon loads of potions for him to sell as he growled lowly muttering “something must be done to stop this draksen from ruining my flow of income” he nods to this “and I know just how to do it too” he cackles turning into maddening laughter filling the shop with his maddening humor. Drakar would talk of how his methods would help the community a great deal and even went so far as to show them his remedies of how certain plants besides the crimson tear that were much more effective and took hold of the problem in a shorter amount of time. The people were amazed at the skill and knowledge the draksen possessed, about herbs and plants and even animals, showing how to treat any of the prominent illnesses that occurred in the area without the help of the crimson tear. At nightfall Drakar would retire at the lonely inn to one of the many places he rented to keep from his long journeys to home, the draksen would yawn softly to himself stretching his arms above his head as he would walk into his room after unlocking the door and removing his cloak slowly to let his wings unfold and spread to their full wingspan before yawning once more his falcon would be at the window sill sitting on the edge where a nest was made for her as she preferred to stay outside during the night. Into his restless state he would render himself, as he unlike most draksen he never dreamed of anything, he was void of it save for when his elder had something she deemed important to him. On this night it seemed there would be something of great importance as Drakar would wiggle and squirm in the bed he lay in visions of horrors beyond his imagination would spring into his mind of that young girl that he met in the woods being taken away and brutally raped and beaten in a place of magic and potions if Drakar didn’t leave the town and not speak of his methods of healing. Drakar would shoot up from his bed at the screams of the girl rang into his ear panting like crazy as he licked his lips his dark green eyes coming to light as he would shake his head a little running a hand thru his now sweat drenched hair, slipping from his bed as he would stand up dressing himself as it seemed he wouldn’t be able to sleep this night either as he made his way towards the door grabbing his staff as he looked out the window seeing his falcon having already taken wing reading his mind like a book. Drakar would leave the inn and pull the cloak hood over his head concealing himself from view save for his ominous dark green eyes that would glow in the darkness. Making his way into town down the dirt road his tail flickering slowly behind him the cloak and loincloth rippling in the wind a little as his eyes would look to the sky seeing his falcon soaring high above him and circling about searching above as he would search the grounds. Drakar’s attention would be taken by the sounds of screams and wails of a mother screaming “they took her they took my baby!” he would run towards this sound looking about slowly “where? where did they take her?” he would say as he looks about before lending a hand to the woman to comfort her as she sobbed openly “they said the only way I would see my daughter is if you leave town Drakar” the poor woman so broke down and shaken she would sob into her husbands arms as Drakar gritted his teeth and cursed under his breath “I swear I will put a stop to this, and I will bring your daughter back….”he says with a wave of his cloak swirling as he would take off in the direction she said the men where heading “ill bring her back alive.”

The horrid screams of the girl would be muffled by the gag provided and harshly placed on by one of the three henchmen as they dragged the girl kicking and fighting every step of the way towards the alchemy. “Stop your fighting you stupid girl there isn’t anything you can do nor anyone else you’re coming with us” one of them would say as they reached the huge double doors of the shop. Upon entering the girl would be taken down to the dungeon and thrown into a cell to stay bound at the wrists and ankles and gagged, as the girl wept openly for she could do nothing to help her situation. The henchmen would report to their master, Dublin, after having placed the girl in her cell “master, we have the girl as you asked what else do you wish of us?” they asked as they bowed to him eyes to the forest floor. The man in his dark red robes gray hair and evil sneer on his lips would scowl to them “I want you to stand guard I have a feeling your actions within the city didn’t go without notice” he says as he would stand there arms crossed. “Don’t let anything out of your sights” he said with a scowl as he turned his back to them letting them leave the office with bowed heads and replies of yes milord. Drakar would race along following the trail left by the henchmen and the girl, his eyes glowing fiercely as he ran along scowling mad about how such cowardly men would resolve to stealing an innocent life and using it to threaten him. Aerial his falcon, raced above him in the sky her eyes would focus on the lights coming from the Valkrum Alchemy as she silently flew about it sending her thoughts to her companion, as Drakar would look thru her eyes and see all that he could. As he tried to determine a weak point some way he could get to the trapped girl within. Opening his eyes, he would come to the tree line near the clearing where the fortress of a shop lay heavily guarded by thugs and hoodlums. Drakar would narrow his eyes a little and scowl lowly holding his staff in hand as he would silently survey how the shifts were divided up, how in 2 hour intervals the guards would switch duties. Finding that there was a blind spot on the left flank of the fortress, Drakar would make his way silently there and wait for one of the guards to round the bin. Soon he would hear the sounds of footsteps approaching as the guard would round the corner the end of the nunchuk staff would whip about and crash right against the mans skull barely making the man let out a yelp before he was taken. Drakar would hide the body in the bushes as he looked over the man and grins a little invoking a spell upon himself as he rose walking towards the main entrance trying to be cool and collected. The guard would look up and see not the draksen hierophant but his own buddy(race blending) walking towards him but without his weapon “hey you ok pal where’s your piece you don’t want that freak showing up and you unarmed do ya?” to which Drakar would mock the mans voice and nod to this ”oh yea your right wait I think I left it in the hall lemme go and get it” he said as he would walk to the door the guard at his post saying ”yea hurry up before the master has your hide for forgetting shit again” he shook his head as he resumed his watch un aware that he let slip into the fortress the very freak he was guarding to stop. Once inside he would calmly look about trying not to be suspicious looking at all as he would hmm a little hoping that none would be able to see through his disguise and illusion. Walking along and asking some questions to some of the other guards who didn’t seem to mind telling man who really was Drakar, where the little girl was and how to get down to see her. Nodding to this and taking his time leaving, Drakar would walk about and scowl as he looked to the evidence he needed that all the crimson tears were in danger from extinction cause of the madness that ran this fortress shop of horrors. Walking down into the dungeon Drakar would tilt his head a little and look about for a torch silently murmuring the words and blowing lightly on the fuse a small flame would lick from his lips to ignite the torch for him to see as he didn’t want to give away he could see in the dark to anyone that might be lingering there. As he rounded down the stair case, there in the last cell, was the little peasant girl tied up and gagged whimpering as she saw the man with the torch approach her not knowing it was Drakar. She wiggled and squirmed and moaned in despair as the man opened the door before he would shake his head a little and lean down to shush her “listen its me the draksen from the forest don’t scream” he said as he would go to untie her bonds and her gag well, she did scream and scream loudly she did as she didn’t believe him at all thinking him some pervert to try and rape her as she would shake her head kicking and screaming and biting him and causing a whole bunch of noise as he would shake his head a little and growl “stop it now or we are both dead no listen I was there when you picked that flower remember?” Drakar would say as the girl stopped kicking him and would sob now clinging to him and holding on for dear life. “Please please just make this nightmare stop” he pleaded to him as Drakar would comfort her gently “shhh it’s alright dear it’s ok no ones going to harm you I swear it.” As he would straighten from his knees and help her to her feet unbinding her save for her arms to make it look like she was taken prisoner still he would turn to make his way behind her walking her up the stairs when who should he see at the top sneering down at him and the girl with evil intent but Dublin and his henchmen. “don’t think you parlor tricks can fool me draksen I know its you hiding behind that illusion, we found one of our men in the bushes knocked out and the guard came to me saying he never returned to his post” he said as he scowled lowly to him. “you have caused my business a lot more trouble then what your worth you freak” he said as he would scowl a little nodding to his henchmen to take him “and now your going to die” Dublin cackled maniacally. “I don’t think so” Drakar would say as he chanted lowly and stood still like stone and from his hands would spring a roaring tunnel of fire (fire boltx6) at the henchmen, some of which would scatter out of the way but those not quick enough were burned to a crisp as Drakar grabbed the girl scooping her up in his arms and making a run for the door. Panting for breath as Drakar would run as fast as his legs could carry him on ward and up the door out of this hellhole was in sight, then from out of no where a bolt of lightning would come crashing down spiking the Sen in the middle of his back as he would falter and fall to his face the girl sent flying towards the ground with a screaming yelp to land in a heap unmoving. Drakar would winces as he shook trying to get to his feet the illusion of a man would melt away revealing the draksen beneath the disguise as Drakar’s dark green eyes would glow lowly. Looking about, he would spot the peasant girl lying there not moving and barely breathing as Dublin would crack a smile to them “now I will kill you both” he said as he would drink a vial of one of the many elixirs he concocted that gave him unlimited power. The fire that licked across a few of the burnt bodies would catch on one of the many tapestries in the shop setting it ablaze along with other cloths and fabrics lying about, if Drakar didn’t do something soon everyone in that shop wont see the light of day again. Dublin would cackle maniacally as he finished the potion and groaned and moaned as his body would contort to fill the raw energy that now coursed thru him, his body growing a bit in size and mass his face baring a pair of long fangs and tusk, two great black wings, and a tail behind him as he would lift his head back and roar to the sky. Drakar would growl a little in his throat and curse “by the elders” he said as his eyes would glow fiercely with anger rage and power as he would stand there staff in hand the three links of the nunchuk staff would whirl and buzz about him as he would scowl a little “I will not allow you to take the innocent life of that girl” he growls as he would stand between the monstrosity and the peasant girl determined not to let more harm come to her. “Fool!” The monster would say as he cackles throwing bolts of fire from its hands at the Sen trying to burn him to a crisp, as Drakar would invoke with the small help of a leaf a mighty shield to block the hammering hits of the bolts knocking him back as Drakar would pant a little growling lowly as he rose back to his feet and scowls a little in defiance. Drakar would shake his head a little as he would let loose a flurry of ice shards from his hands (ice shards x4) most of which would melt before they hit the monster but a few would leave their mark slicing the face of the monster cutting him open, a thin line of blood trickling down its cheek as he lapped at it and would grin a little “you will pay for this!” the huge tail of the beast would dart forward like a lightning and slam into Drakar’s side sending him flying into wall with a thud. Half the wall would come crumbling down onto of Drakar’s body as the monster laughed at this smiling with wicked intent as he would storm over to the girls limp body blatantly ignoring his burning shop from outside as he would lift the girl up hearing her moan a little. Licking his lips he would growl a little “I am going to enjoy devouring you little one” he said as he would raise her up and opened his huge maw. From under the rumble a loud roar would be heard as the pile shook and trembled quaking as from under the mess the draksen rose looking a bit bigger with more muscle to his being them before his cloak hanging off him in a tattered mess, cuts and bruises dotting his chest and arms and head as his green eyes glowing brightly (Strength of Earth x5) as he would lift his arms above his head “I SAID LEAVE HER ALONE!” He would bring his fist down hard to the ground. This in turn would sent out a shockwave a tremor through the ground causing it to split open with cracks along the forest floor towards the monster who now looked surprised by this. The tremors would send the monster reeling falling backwards hard off its feet into the wall throwing the girl away into the air. Drakar would run forward diving out to catch the girl in her arms before she went splat on the forest floor. The wall would crack up from the foundation and crumble forward onto the monster as now half the shop sat in ruins burning from the fire and fallen from the battle. Drakar would look seeing the unmoving figure of the monster. Standing slowly in his bigger form due to the spell, cuddling the girl’s barely moving form in his arms as he would turn slowly to walk away from the horror that was once called the Valkrum Alchemy and its wicked owner. From out of nowhere the monster would sit up with a low growl and leap at the pair wanting to flatten them and gash them up with its teeth screaming “you will not escape me!” Drakar would growl lowly setting the girl down as he faced the monster grabbing its arms by the wrists and sliding back a little but none the less stopping the creature as his eyes now alight with rage “no old fool tonight you messed with nature, and the mother has sent me to deal with the follies of men so tonight, you will be the one to return to the womb” he roars as he would lift the monster up over his head and growl as he spun him around and around faster, faster until he let him fly tumbling into the nights sky. “see you in hell” he says as he would chant lowly and firing from his hands a roar of Fire(fire bolt x6) a tunnel of all consuming flame that would skyrocket towards the fallen foe how tried to cover its eyes screaming in pain before exploding into a flash of light. Drakar would groan a little before falling into a heap on the ground having expended all his energies into the fight. His muscles contort and shrink down to his original form as he would pant lowly murmuring a spell to his lips as light green energy would flicker into his being. (Healing touch x2) making his way over to the girls body, Drakar would sit up and rest his hands on her abdomen “death isn’t ready for you Gaea wants you to live still its too soon” he says as he would close his eyes a little as light green energy would collect slowly from about the area pulling Gaeas energy from all her children to heal one. Drakar would wince a little concentrating his focus on the task at hand. All the green energy would flow into the girl slowly, the last of the spell flickering out before Drakar would fall down from exhaustion, darkness taking over.

Sometime later Drakar would awaken to the sounds of birds chirping in the window sill, as he would blink his dark green eyes open and look about. He was in a strange bed, not his own and he wasn’t in the forest but someone’s house and bandaged up all over from the fight but he doesn’t remember how he got here. The sound of footsteps would answer his questions as the little peasant girl would peek in with a tray of food and some bandages “oh!”She says as she looked to him surprised to see him awake “I hope I didn’t wake you when you healed me I came too and found you barely alive so I got help and my mom and papa thought it was best you stay here and rest up till you can go” she would look down and wiggle her feet shifting them lightly “it’s the least they and I can do for you saving me Mr. Drakar” she smiled to him as she set the food before him to eat and kissed his forehead. Drakar would get back his strength and thank the people for their hospitality, taking a few of the crimson tears he was able to sneak away from the shop and put them into the soil tucking them under his arm as he stood there in a new dark green cloak and loincloth saying his goodbyes to the people after having taught them all he knew about herbal remedies that are more efficient then using the Crimson Tears. Drakar would wave slowly to the group before making his way towards the forest plants in hand and falcon on his shoulder hoping he did all he could to help the townsfolk with his teachings. Soon the balance of nature would be restored and the ones near extinct crimson tears would find a haven from hunters and those seeking to destroy it, hidden away in the cove, Drakar’s sanctuary.
