Legends of Belariath

Esper

==The Story of a Wanderer (Esper)==

"To travel is your passion.."

"Loyalty, Wisdom, Observation, and Thoughtfulness are your Virtues.."

"AWAKEN ESPER, FOR MY WILL IS YOURS AND YOUR WILL IS MINE!!!"

Esper would open his sharp, golden eyes, looking around...nothing but windswept plains. It seemed like yesterday when he was born from the dreams of his elders. An emerald bejewled with a passion for travel. He was dreamt into a small, remote village of similar draks, most of who hardly stayed, if at all. The elder dragons watched this place with a fierce eye, and commanded their servants, the emerald drak sen with the whim of their wise words. One particular drak here was Esper. Dreamt as loyal, virtous, stern, and cunning..he made a for a perfect interest in their eye.

In his early days, Esper would watch many leave that small village, most not coming back for months, years, or at all. With each one that had set out at the will of the elders, his passion for travel grew, secretly wondering why that one drak sen parting ways with thevillage could not be him. To Esper, he envied those who have seenthe farthest reaches of the world, yet, admired them..for they have seen all that the lands had to offer, an ambition he sought after.

One day he was summoned by none other than his elders. Surprised, he didn't delay in meeting up with them. One in the emerlad dragon's chamber, he'd kneel, golden eyes looking downward, tail curled at his side..."You requested my presence, my liege?" Esper would ask.

"INDEED..." the mighty dragon would say, the earth under the creature rumbling ever so slightly. "ESPER, YOU'R TIME WITHIN THE VILLAGE HAS GROWN FAR FROM STALE...IT IS TIME TO DEPART..I CAN SEE YOU'VE BEEN WONDERING WHY MANY HAVE LEFT BEFORE YOU..." Esper remained quiet, eyes down casted. It wasn't anything new to him. He was their will, his mind was theirs, his existence was theirs...what his elders judged was final.

"THE OTHERS ARE MERELY FULFILLING THEIR DESIRE TO TRAVEL..TO BE FREE, WANDERING THE LANDS AS WE SEE FIT...YOU WILL DO THE SAME...BUT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BEING OUR OBSERVANT EYE..YOU WILL BE OUR WITNESS TO HISTORY ESPER..UNTIL WE SEE FIT OTHERWISE...A TRAVELER AND OUR SCRIBE TO THE EVER EXPANDING HISTORY OF THIS WORLD....TELL ME..ARE YOU ONE FIT FOR SUCH A TASK?"

Esper of course felt that jolt of excitement, but also felt the pressure of his new role. He'd remain kneeling, golden eyes slowly looking upward at the towering emerald dragon "Yes, my liege...I will follow my proper duties and obey..I will not fail you nor the other elders in that goal.." he was stern, a voice as sharp as steel.

"EXCELLENT ESPER.....NOW..PREPARE YOURSELF...FOR WE HAVE ALREADY DECIDED THE FIRST LOCALE OF YOUR VISIT.."

From that point on Esper had indeed begun traveling, seeing new locales and kingdoms..as well as serving a few in some cases. He had witnessed mighty Kingdoms flourish..and other empires fall horribly..his elders taking into account the wise...and not so wise actions of the more mortal of beings. One night, the drak would find himself resting under a tree, located in a small patch of forest in the most dense of mountains before a voice would ring out to him.

"NATHALION..."

"NATHALION, ESPER..."

Slightly startled, the drak would sit up abit more, furrowing his brows

"Na..thalion?.."

"THE DISTANT LAND, NATHALION, ESPER....WE WISH FOR YOU TO GO THERE AND OBSERVE ITS HAPPENINGS. AFFILIATE YOURSELF WITH THOSE LANDS,GROW STRONGER, AND KEEP YOUR AMBITION ALIVE... OUR EYE SHALL GUIDE YOU TO THOSE LANDS...NOW MAKE HASTE..FOR IT IS OUR WILL TO SEE IT SO.."

Quietly, Esper would stand..he hadn't recieved a direct order from the elders since the last locale he had occupied. The other locales and palaces were indeed menial against Nathalian. He had heard many stories about this massive empire, yet had never travelled within its provinces. Twigs would crunch under his feet, the emerald drak starting to depart without an object. What would he gain from this place? what awaited him there?..Esper, the eyes of the elder, would be sure to find out very soon, in either case.
