Legends of Belariath

Hutgar

Hutgar was born in a rainy day… The high elf was the first and only son of a wealthy family. He was always allowed to do anything he wished.

During his childhood he often did what he wanted, for his parents tendered to his every need. However when he found himself at school, things were not so easy for him, he was neither strong, or agile and the other kids often picked on him. He often found the need to get away from those kids and he often choose solitary activities, like reading. He was however smarter than most and achieved the best results at school… this only made the other kids jealous of him.

Hutgar at the age of 14 was invited to the High Academy of Wizardly, an honor for anyone but especially to one so young. He had what the ancient elves considered the “spark”. He had a natural talent for magic, even though it drained his body every time he channeled it. His natural curiosity often led for him to seek tomes of knowledge in the library… resorting to his family good name and wealth he was able to read books that were usually reserved for the high ranking mages… he still didn’t understood their content but he dreamed on the day he was as capable as Sihjer, his mentor.

At the age of 17 he was already one of the young promises of the Academy, but all would change in one lonely night… he went too far in his pursuit of knowledge, slipping unseen into his mentor summoning chamber, hiding in the closet where Sihjer usually kept his spell components. All was quiet in the large room. When his mentor made the summoning something went wrong… the invisible circle of protection drawn on the floor had being tainted by Hutgar´s touch unaware of it, and it was all it took for the summoned Dragon to break free and kill his former mentor. The screams were awful and Hutgar cowered in the closet. After that the dragon told Hutgar to step out of the closet, blood splattered on the floor and walls of the room, throwing Sihjer robes tainted with blood to him and saying “My name is Kira. I have been awakened after centuries of sleep. This is my gift for you mortal, your life and this… wear them for they are yours now…” the Dragon easily breaking through the roof now free to wander this world. The rest of the night was all blurry as Hutgar made his escape; he knew that there would be no mercy for him if he was caught… they would force the truth out of him and then kill him.

The journey was full of dangers but he managed to cross the border in one piece, looking to start a brand new life… but he would not forgot that night no matter how long he lived… he would one day summon Kira and destroy it… and for that he would need to learn to survive in this brand new land. To become more powerful and insightful of the mysteries of magic was all he desired.

His personality was somewhat twisted… he understood the laws of the land and bent them to his wishes… he bullied those he found to be weaker than himself and made himself useful to those who were more powerful. He liked offering advices and liked to be praised on his wisdom and intelligence. Good and Evil meant nothing to him, at least not in the common sense of those words. His motto of life “Power is everything” and he kept searching for that… whenever he was looking for easy money or when reading a forgotten tome at the library, or even when making contacts with important people… Power was his motivation, and he would stop at nothing to achieve it.
