Legends of Belariath

Le`Neif

You wish to know a little more about your Apothecaress, hmm? Well, I suppose you will have to listen from the beginning then.

When I was a little girl-kitten, I was stolen away from my family. I’m sure they didn’t care. They still had my brother and my seven sisters. That is the way it is with cat’s, you know. They never really seem to notice when a daughter among them is stolen.

The man who had taken me was a powerful Mage. You do not need to know his name. It matters no more. Some would tell me that I was his slave, but I would not be convinced. He was kind and gentle to me. I was treated as a pampered child. I was properly educated in the usual studies and in how to conduct myself in public. (I was a wild thing when he took me in and these lessons were quite necessary. Though between myself and you, I do not think they completely took hold.) He saw that I had a natural affinity for preparation and use of herbs. He arranged for me to apprentice with an old Sheyka shaman.

I lived among the Sheyka for all of 9 years. When I had finished my training, my knowledge surpassed even that of my instructor. I was told this was a gift from the earth… That I was special. It is of no consequence. It changes nothing for my story, for none in my then hometown of Couer D’Lane believed that it was true. I was apprenticed at the Apothecary there for two years.

When the old man who ran the Apothecary died, I took his position. I will not bore you with the details of my adulthood. Well, perhaps ‘bore’ is not the proper word. I am sure the details would be quite… stimulating. Another time perhaps, yes? All you need know is that I am the foremost authority on herbs and funguses. Blindfold me, cuff me… it matters not. My nose alone will guide me.

I will run your Apothecary. I will train your citizens. They are in quite… capable hands.
