Legends of Belariath

Liyalai

Liyalai was raised as a privileged elven woman, or as she sees it, trapped in a golden cage.

She was supposed to be someone of great influence amongst her kind, a princess… a ruler… and was being prepared for such by her Shalafi, Jade. During a trip they both took to the distant mountains Liyalai met a human man, the first she had ever seen and fell madly in love with him. Knowing it would be forbidden to her to marry an outsider, Liya suffered in silence. The rebel couple seemed very in love, and knowing the kind of life that waited Liya, where she would mostly be alone, Jade allowed the romance, knowing it would end when both women returned home.

But the man that Liyalai met was not who he seemed. He was a slaver, and his porpuse was to capture Liya to sell her on the slave market. He was a smart man, he knew that with Jade by Liya’s side he would not stand a chance, for if he tried to harm her, Jade would no doubt kill him. So he seduced the young, naïve Liyalai and convinced her to escape with him one night, so they would be married. And then no one could separate them.

For Liya, who was so in love, this seemed the perfect thing and so she agreed. One moonless night, covered by the darkness, they escaped to the forest and they kept running for days on end. Only when he was certain he had gotten away with his crime did he revealed his personality and his cruel intentions. It was a shock for such a delicate, sensitive creature as herself, which was not at all used to cruelty or abuse.

Now this man new that a virgin slave would sell for a much higher bid then a “tainted” one, after all, virgin elven female slaves were hard to find. And that was Liya’s luck. He tied her and abused a bit of her, but aside that she was pretty much left untouched. Now Liyalai was young and naïve, but not that entirely dumb, so she devised a way to escape him and one night, while he was asleep she managed to run away. But he tracked her down and caught her again. In a struggle to save her life she was able to kill him. She had never harmed a living thing and the thought of having taken a life haunts her still.

She ran through the forest until she reached Nanthalion, by now she was too far away from home and she did not wished to return to her golden cage anyway. Thinking this would be a safe place for her she decided to stay. But she had no idea what destiny awaited her… Or that she would soon become a slave girl and very much love it.

Upon her arrival she tried to live a normal life, though she hided her past for fear of being taken back to her people where her destiny was already set. She even found a job in the Naked Bird, as a sales woman and model.

One day she headed to the Bath house where she met Nylan. A worker there he too took advantage of the girl’s innocence and during a massage, as Liya thought that what he did was normal he ended up seducing her and taking her virginity. Thinking his intentions were good she fell in love with him. When she found out he did not love her and in fact had another woman she was devastated and again ran away. She was found by Aramis, who took pity on her and made her his slave. Liya was for the first time truly happy. She was safe and nothing pleased her more then to please Aramis, though she saw him more like a big brother, a really close friend. She was not the greatest slave in the world, not even close, but she was devoted to him.

Until she met Janousse, another elf, and fell in love with him.

They seemed to be in love, at least as much as Liyalai knew… Janousse even went so far as to tattoo her name on his belly! Aramis allowed her to marry Janousse before he disappeared and the wedding was set. She bought her wedding dress and could not be more happy. Until tragedy struck. Three days before the wedding Janousse committed suicide, leaving no explanation to a devastated Liyalai. For weeks she was shattered. She roamed through the forest in mourning and despair and was found by Amythyst, who took care of her. By that time Liya barely spoke or ate. She wanted to die herself. But life moved on… She ended up face to face with Aramis and was granted her freedom, though he would still be her tutor at Unigo.

So that was a new beginning for Liya, a chance to start fresh, to be happy.
