Legends of Belariath

Senai

"My birth was to the matriarch of the Kalloras house, in the dark elven city of Dar`Lgoth. As I am told my birth was celebrated with a feast and the sacrificing of five of my mother's slaves to praise Lloth. I was raised as a noble, treated as if I were a matron myself. Fed the most exotic and exquisite of foods in silver and golden dishes, I dressed in the silks of the spider queen and was taught the ways of magic as well as the skills of a fighter.

In my youth I attracted a bit of jealousy from some of the older nobles in the house, seeming as if I were destined to become matron after my mother. Perhaps it was this very situation that spawned the bouts of treachery that ran rampant in the house. Shortly after my forty-eighth winter, my mother fell ill. It was not an illness like any our priests had seen before, she was tormented by screams of the dead whenever she closed her eyes. It drove her mad.

She would not sleep or rest At times she would not even blink. Incredibly, my mother endured her curse for three seasons before her madness drove her to end her own life. Her body was discovered, nude and disemboweled, by the matron's sister, Nil`Ra.

Her body had been mangled by a small dagger of sorts, and there were many runic patterns carved into her back and shoulders. Upon her death it was almost certain that I, a rather young dark elf aged of almost fifty winters, would be the next matron of my house. And so I became, serving my house as best I could though it was probably my young age that spawned harsh feelings. Perhaps it was my lack of maturity as a matron that caused the punishment I received, but for whatever reason Lloth forsook me. After ten years of ruling my house, one of her own priestesses told of the spider queen's message that I had been the one to slay the former matron, and as such I was taken to receive a traitor's slaying sacrifice to the Goddess.

Quite ironic was it that the very woman that discovered my dead mother Nil`Ra became the matron in my absence. My escort to the altar of sacrifice was particularly small, and the guards were ambushed by a group of my former slaves. The rather poorly equipped assembly of slaves was quickly slaughtered, though I managed to switch places with another drowess who looked enough like to me to pass off with the guards. I escaped with one wounded slave, a male, whom had never been deemed worthy enough to even acquire a name.

He informed me that he overheard the matron speaking of the curse she had placed upon my mother and how she had slain my mother when her strong will kept her alive and enduring. I decided to stay in Dar`Lgoth and attempt to gain money and power, forsaking the Kalloras house and even Lloth herself. I spent several years whoring myself out to slaves of dark elves, selling my body as well as taking whatever extra money I could off of them, and killing ones who manage to catch me in the act.

It was perhaps the thought that I had already been slain that kept me from being found for so long, but eventually I defiled one of Nil`Ra's own slaves who unfortunately recognized me. Though he did not say such at the time, it was not long before the matron herself sent her guards to apprehend me. She kept knowledge of my living between only between her, her slave, and the two warriors who captured me.

Rather than alert the others of the house of her incompetence by staging another sacrifice, I was merely sold My own kind sold me, as a slave, to a group of human bandits. It was during this time I developed a great hatred for most of my own kind, especially other females of my race. This time was indeed the most humiliating of my life. For many years I was raped, whipped, beaten several times a day. I was fed barely enough to survive, forced to endure the taunting of any who ridiculed my fate because my very own kind had turned against me. During this time I forgot most of my magical teachings, unable to use them at all.

Perhaps it was a miracle that led the bandits to the city Nanthalion where, after attempting to burglarize the Naked Bird clothing store, they had a battle with the Imperial Guards. It was during this time I managed to escape my captors and flee from the town to the nearby forest, whereupon I found an Inn. I ran in, naked battered, bruised and scarred attempting to evade the pursuit of the bandits - eager to regain their fleeing property.

Some of the Inn's inhabitants were quick to my aid and the thieves that chose to follow me were slain upon attempt to reclaim me. It was claimed by the slaver's guild where I was nursed back to health and healed of my scars and wounds. It wasn't long before I attracted the attention of another whom soon purchased me. A barbarian, Zoltaire was his name. His very mistake in owning me was the freedom have gave me, and soon I regained my own thoughts of freedom and my vow to extract revenge upon Nil`Ra for the slaying of my mother.

I soon ran away Back to Dar`Lgoth, the city of my birth, the years of enduring punishment, my mind had been brooding the way in which I would kill the woman for her treachery. Curiously I managed to find the very dark elf slave whom had aided be in escaping my death. He was able to return to me the very dagger in which my mother had been slain with, having stolen it from Nil`Ra, and it was the very weapon I sought my retribution with.

The body of the matron was discovered in her baths, her beautiful face carved from her body, her servants absent of their hearts, which had been cleanly cut from their chests. She was missing her collar the collar that signifies the matron of the Kalloras house. Black plated, with three fiery red rubies embedded into the front I still wear it to this day.

It was at the conclusion of this event that I fled Dar`Lgoth, a city I would no longer be welcome in, to return to the only place where I could be without attracting attention as I gather power. Lloth chose me to rule And regardless of what the Goddess thinks of me now, I shall. I now have but a place I can reside until I decide to return to Dar`Lgoth and take my rightful place as matron, The Lonely Inn"
