Legends of Belariath

Taziar

He sits in the small building of the tanners head and body bent over the work he was doing as the tanner stood on the other side of the room pretending to be doing his own work but really watching what Taz is doing. He sees in the young man the talent and gift to go far with this work and thanks the day that his family moved to this town. He just wishes he were a better teacher for Taz will go further and learn much more then he could ever hope to teach him.

He knows also that he can not teach this vulpine all he will want to know that all he has been able to do is stall teaching him the little he knows till the boy was old enough to be able to go find himself a better teacher. He knows that day is coming and soon, sooner then he wants it to because he doesn’t want to let him go having discovered in him more then just a mutual liking of leather work. Sadly now that his student is old enough he also has run out of things to be taught. The older man sighs, which causes Taz to raise his head, ears flicking forward as he looks toward his teacher.

Is something the matter? The young vulpine asks not having seen his teacher look so sad as he does now.

Tad jerks his head up as he realizes his sigh was heard, well there is no reason to put this off. To keep him here longer will only torment the both of them. So he nods to Taz and leaving the work he had not even been doing he walks over and takes a seat near Taz.

Nothing wrong really just an old man not wanting to loose his student and knowing he can not put it off any longer.

Taz blinks at this and sits down the skin he had been working on a look at first of confusion coming to his features before it dawns on him just what he means. He lets out a sigh of his own then and nods before running a hand through his hair.

I had a feeling this was coming soon, I seemed to be doing the same things just given to me differently. I suppose you have been putting me off in learning till I got older?

Tad blinks in surprise then shakes his head; well of course he should have realized his student isn’t stupid after all so he simply nods.

What will I do now then? Do you know of another who can continue my teaching?

Tad gives another nod and getting to his feet he moves over to the desk in the room and pulls out a sealed letter. He hands it to Taz then with a gruffly spoken “here”. Taz takes it turning it in his hands for a moment before he also stands and looks to his teacher though he says nothing Tad though does speak.

There is a man I know, he lives in a city a few weeks walk east of here. Some years ago I made a bargain with him for him to take you on when your learning with me was done.

Taz nods as he listens and grips the now precious letter tighter. I have to leave here then, I knew I would but knowing and doing are two different things. My parents are going to kick up a fuss you know it.

Tad nods and moves to pick up a pack he had sitting under the desk and out of sight. I know, they have made it clear to me they would be very unhappy if I even thought of sending you off for more training, your mother still thinks she can change you and get you married off.

Taz grimaces at that and raises a brow at the pack figuring Tad has it packed for him to leave now rather then face his parents. So you are going to brave their anger oh teacher? It seems somewhat the coward’s way to leave you to them and not even say goodbye to them.

Tad chuckles and tosses the pack to Taz he catching it with a grunt at the weight of it. He pulls it over his shoulders then and settles it in place as he watches his..well he cannot think of him as his teacher anymore as when he gave him the letter he stopped being so.

Leaving without saying goodbye to them isn’t such a bad thing and you know it you are just a better son then they deserve. Well my last order to you are your teacher is to take that pack now and leave, if it bothers you so much just send money back to them when you start making it and they will forget your desertion of them.

Taz nods and sighs moving up to give Tad a quick hard hug before he leaves without a word heading off to this city he looking to the letter as he leaves wondering what this new teacher will be like, what his life will be like now.

So starts the journey of Taz the city he goes to is not Nanthalion and what goes on there what he learns…or does not learn…is another story for another time.
