Legends of Belariath

Tsuneko Remito

Tsuneko Remito was born in a shroud of secrecy, even himself not knowing what happened, due to his past being erased from his memory before allowing him to leave the forest village he was created in.

(The information that follows is on the records at the college of magi but is available to anyone really. But Tsuneko does know not of this in character so you know more about him than he does!)

Tsuneko means “Outside or Forest Cat”

Born to a cat person on his mother’s side and a human mage on his father’s side, Tsuneko was born with all of the respect of his race for being a male. But the main reason Tsuneko was special, because he was able to do magic due to the strange relationship of his parents. Not knowing what the cat people would do to him, Tsuneko’s father left when he was born, leaving his mother to bring up the bouncing cat baby.

Early in his life, Tsuneko gained many friends and accumulated hardly any enemies – those enemies that he did gain, slowly lost their hatred for him after they got to know him. This is a flaw from his father’s side, Tsuneko is very sensitive to other’s feelings towards him, and if he senses negative vibes he will try to overcome them by any means to even get a greeting from them. This has got him into very dangerous situations in the past, and will most likely do so in the future. With time and training it will slowly pass, though as the young cat’s mind is open to learning.

His father honoured Tsuneko by teaching him the ways of magic. He utilised the power of ice that his father was a speciality in. This did turn his ears and tail blue one day by mistake as he cast a change self spell and was unable to return it to his normal brown cat like self.

Athletic by nature, Tsuneko loves to be agile and leap and jump from things, this too has its negative points as a broken leg takes time to heal. But that’s why his father allowed him to embrace the art of healing – for small wounds of course.

When Tsuneko was old enough to go out foraging with the other hunters his mother sought the skill of a mage who his father suggested should talk to Tsuneko before allowing him to enter the main travelling world.

So one day, Tsuneko set forth, armed with a dagger and a mage cloak and attempted to find this mage that his mother begged him to seek. Not knowing where he was just using a compass and map references, he found the old mage, an old fellow with a white beard and long wizard’s cloak and gave him the note that his mother had given him. On reading the parchment the Mage sat open mouthed at the thought of this young lad in front of him but carried out the requests of the family anyway. He started by teaching him how to calm his mind in preparation to casting spells and how to do surprise attacks, then the art of training the mind to move small objects around. He still doesn’t know how to do this properly but with training, he would be a powerful adversary one day. After the mage had trained Tsuneko for 2 weeks he said that he was ready to join the travellers of his race…

The mage said that things would happen in the future that would test him physically and mentally, and he should prepare for this by finding a master or companion that was willing to train him.

The mage wiped Tsuneko’s mind of his past history to protect his mother and father as his dad requested, but wiped a small piece of information that would cost him his freedom. He took away the command to find a master or a companion but left need to find a master. Armed with a handful of spells and his kit bag, Tsuneko was told to go to the Lonely Inn to seek a master who would guide him. The mage said nothing about who the Master would be – he said that Tsuneko would know who that being would be. Following the map references he made his way into the Lonely Inn and to his impeding slavery that he feels is perfectly normal. So he entered the inn looking for a master - and he found Victoria Celas. But that is another story ……..
