Flint Lizard
Size: Ranging from 8 to 20 inches. (From head to tip of tail)

Flint Lizard is an exceedingly useful creature with a equally dubious reputation. They are covered in a harmless magical flame, they give off a natural light that is equivalent the glow from candlelight. They are not harmed by normal fire, and often curl up within burning logs, or coals greatly extending the life of the fuel source. While they can start fires, they cannot breath flame - they are able muster the expel of flint like sparks from their mouths.

They breed within uncontrolled fires and near active volcanoes, often found within the heart of a blaze, prolonging and aiding the spread of the dangerous flames. (As such, they have become through the years
a rather unwelcome sight during the hottest points of the summer, especially within the forest).

Their eggs are tiny, and black as coal, buried among the still glowing embers of a fiery disaster. Rarely preyed upon by natural creatures, they were at times harvested in the creation of poultices against heavy poisons, but as they are bitter and tasting much of soot are often not eaten by other creatures.

Their scales range from bright reds, to charcoal grays, and have a magical flame of yellows, orange, blue or white. They have four legs, and a tail length equal to length of the rest of their body. Their eyes are black, but have a mostly infra like vision for locating the warmest places to be (or a potential mate).

Abilities:

Magical Flame: Flint Lizards produce a magical flame of equivalent light to candles. The longer they remain still, the more of their body the fire covers (There is also said to be minor hue differences within the flames that the creatures use to determine sex).
Spark Breath: As within their namesake, the Flint Lizard is able to produce a spark equivalent to flint and steel - spit from their mouths.
Naturally Heat: While you cannot burn yourself on the skin of a Flint Lizard, they range from naturally warm, to uncomfortably warm depending on their mood.
Infra vision: As they reproduce within adverse situations where fire has gotten out of control, their ability to distinguish and see through smoke, soot and intense heat is a important aspect of their survival.
