Ceremonies and Conventions of Uvelcra

Postby Sorgram on Sat May 31, 2008 8:19 pm

Spring—the ritual of Eruption— Created for the time that he spent with Gaea, Uvelcra deems that during this month a ritual will be preformed on his great anvil. It is commanded that two of the most beautiful worshippers, male and female, make love upon the anvil. After the ceremony, great feasts and drinking will commence

Summer—the Sacrifice of Magma—the hottest time for Rocks and for beings—It is rumored that during one particularly hot summer, Uvelcra found a maiden lying upon his anvil. She was cooling off as the anvil was the coolest place in the temple. What was a god to do but to entertain the lady there. Being pure, she graced the anvil with herself when he claimed her and Uvelcra as a reward, cooled the temple and surrounding lands for three months. As part of the requirements for a cool summer, Uvelcra has decreed that a maiden must be tied to the anvil during the full moon for his desires during the three months of summer. If there is a month of two moons, the maiden must have a twin and both must be presented. Otherwise, the summer will be one of the hottest on record.

Autumn—The Blessing of the Floe— This is the time of the cooling magma. As the heat of magma wanes, so does the temperature during the year. In preparations for the season of the rock, all worshipper must provide a sacrifice of their harvest and flock. 1/6 of each bushel of harvest should be given. 1/12 of each animal in the flock should be given to the temple. If during the time of the rock, a person should run out of food, then they should visit the temple for assistance. After the giving a feast is held and much debauchery ensues.

Winter—The building of the Rock—as all that remains of the lava is a Rock, Uvelcra decrees that rocks should be gathered from the fields and placed in remembrance of his great mountain. A sacrifice should be made upon this altar and the wife should be thoroughly warmed afterwards. If not married or bonded, anyone will do. If the warming occurs upon the altar, a blessing my be granted and the altar made permanent.

Rite of Sanctuary

Postby Sorgram on Sat May 31, 2008 8:24 pm

Rite of Sanctuary -
The Rite of Sanctuary is a little game of Uvelcra’s. He believes that wisdom should be earned through gaining experience by living life and surviving trials of existence and should not be free as wisdom given free is not fully comprehended. Also, he believes that anyone who requests to be hidden in the temple, shall be granted their wish, providing they earn it. With this thought, he provided the Rite of Sanctuary. Upon requesting Sanctuary, the Sanctuant is provided with the rules. They are told that within the temple there are two safe spots for them. The dining hall and the Cell of Sanctuary. They are allowed free movement within these rooms but not throughout the Temple, unless escorted by members of the temple wearing yellow. The yellow members are, also, used as escorts for visitors to the temple. Any one escorted by someone in yellow is protected and should not be molested in any fashion. The Sanctuant is given the philosophy of Uvelcra and advised to gain sanctuary they will have to gain wisdom and knowledge from within the temple. To do this, they are given a choice, to leave or make their way to the Cell of Sanctuary. They are advised of the general direction but not the specific location. They are advised that at the sound of the Anvil they should make their way through the temple to the Cell. There is a catch. At the ringing of the Anvil, a call will be sent through the temple. ‘Sanctuant Afoot.’ Each month, members of the temple chosen by rotation for the privilege of wearing red. Any member wearing red is granted the opportunity to snag the Sanctuant. Only a few members are allowed to chase the Sanctuant. Once the call goes out, the Sanctuant will dash off and search through the temple for the Hall of Wisdom and the Cell of Sanctuary. The reds will be on the lookout for the Sanctuant and if they manage to catch the Sanctuant before they reach the Cell of Sanctuary, then they are rewarded with one service from the Sanctuant. They release the Sanctuant and he must make his way again to his destination. Upon reaching it he is safe and cannot be molested or demanded new services of. The Sanctuant may remain as long as they desire in the cell, only leaving for meals. At mealtime, when a Sanctuant is in the temple, the Anvil will ring 12 times. From the first strike until the twelfth, the Sanctuant may make his way to the dining hall. However, after the twelfth the Sanctuant may again be captured for service unless they have reached the dining hall. At the end of an hour, the anvil will be struck 13 times and the reverse is given, they must travel back to the Cell within the 13 strikes, becoming game again after the thirteenth. During the time within the cell or the dining hall, they can speak with anyone without fear or molestation. The Sanctuant may request a yellow to escort him to do his services owed, if he has any. If he has none, the yellow will provide him books from the library but otherwise the Sanctuant must remain in the Cell at all times. Also, before granting the Rite of Sanctuary, a potential Sanctuant must agree to complete all services before leaving. If they are not completed, they will not be allowed to leave. This stipulation must be agreed upon or no sanctuary will be granted.
