To the Mountain Door

Postby Sorgram on Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:20 am

Upon arriving at the specified location, a person will find a copse of trees and a sign that will read, ‘At sunset, the way will open.’ Beyond the copse of trees would be a Mountain of great height and stature. Taller and broader than any of the others, the top would seem to be almost flat and level. The denseness of the trees would prevent any from traveling through.

As the sun set over the Mountain, a sight would be seen, a glow around the Mountain and it would seem to be on fire. The trees would seem to fade from view and a road three carts wide would be revealed. Composed of white stone, the road would seem to be freshly lain, and the stone non- weathered and of the purest white. No blade of grass would be seen on the road for as far as the eye could see and snow would avoid the road this night.

Along each side of the road which lead directly to Mountain of Fire, standing every 300 feet would be by a large brazier, illuminating the road. Each brazier would be carved of red granite, the base shaped as an anvil. Resting on the anvil would be a hammer, handle to the sky. Upon this handle, would rest a bowl, filled with tender.

At the last vestiges of sunlight fall from the sky, the braziers nearest the road would begin to light. The flame would burst in the braziers, the tender lighting fully, immediately. However, the braziers would burn the full of the night, only extinguishing with the rising of the sun.

The Road to Fire Mountain, as the people who did not worship Uvelcra would begin to call the volcano, would rise gradually, tiring not horses, jhores or those that walked, but not making the travel easy. As the lead person came level with the braziers, another would light further down the line, those behind remaining lit. After a mile and half, one would see the top of the mountain and an end to the road.

The road would seem to drop off the edge of a cliff. Looking out over the cliff, one would look down upon the valley of Valencia, being able to see all of the lights of the inhabitants below. During the day one could imagine seeing the whole of the valley all the way to the Dark Walk. Tonight, various fires of red could be seen lit, realizing that the shape of the fires would be in the shape of a massive hammer.

A flash to the right would cause one to turn their head in that direction. Under an overhang, the first living beings would be seen. Dressed in red robes, two guards standing erect and with long pikes would be in front of a flat section of rock. One would say in the ‘Vistar Zharr Ungor, Eng Telomar Enterep’ A student of languages would recognize Dwarven, but it would be unnecessary to translate as the other would say ‘Welcome to the Mountain of Fire. Enter the Hearth of Entropy.’

As the last of the words were spoken, the two guards would stand aside and two massive doors would be revealed as a glow lit up the carvings in them. A volcano, seemingly in the throes of eruption, casting out six hammers, the top most being similar to the hammers of the braziers, would be illuminated. Then as if pushed by massive hands, the doors would open into the mountain and the way into the Mountain Temple would appear.
