Auctions at the Bazaar

If you're reading this, you must be wondering about auctions at the Bazaar, how they work, what is allowed, and what's in it for you. The following should explain all of that, from how they work to what's expected of the bidders and the sells alike, as well as where they're located.

Let's make two things clear: You do not have to work at the Bazaar in order to enter an item for auction. You do not have to work at the Bazaar in order to bid on an item.

What is an Auction?
An auction at the Bazaar is the sale of a good or service to the highest bidder. Bidders are people who appraise the item, then call out what they are willing to pay for said item. The one willing to pay the highest wins the auction. There is either an auctioneer on duty or a Bazaar manager to oversee the whole ordeal. Items that get entered into the auction are approved only by the managers. All auction items start at 5mhl as a base bid. Keep that in mind when deciding what to enter.

Where does the Bazaar Auction take place?
In he Bazaar Market there is a stage built specifically for the showcasing of goods, and that is where auctioned items will be brought up, displayed and bid upon. Bidders are fenced off away from the stage at a safe distance to allow for the items to be moved about freely when bidding begins. Before bidding, items are usually displayed in stalls throughout the market unless stated otherwise like for an event.

What can be sold at the Bazaar Auctions?
Firstly, no sex. You cannot sell yourself, a sexual service, or a slave at Bazaar Auctions. Attempting to try such will get you a talking to from Management as well as the OPs and repeated offenses may find you banned from participating in any Bazaar Auction. That said, there are more than just produced crafts and consumables that can be auctioned off. Services count! As example, an animal trainer may spend the day showing off tricks their own dogs knows, and on stage give a performance to showcase their skill, then auction off the use of their services for either one animal or the time limit of one day. Entertainers can do the same, performing feats and song, and then auctioning off their services for a private lesson or show.

How do shopitems play into the Auctions?
When a craft or consumable is approved for an Auction, the Manager on duty will give you a corresponding shopitem (if you don't have one already) that contains your maker's mark and a small description of the item. When the item is won, you will then give the item to the highest bidder in exchange for the bid of coin. Examples of these include but are not limited to handmade bone combs, paintings, sculpted figures or dolls, pottery etc..

What is a maker's mark?
New to the Bazaar, special events like the auctions will allow a character to sell an item with a tag of [Name] at the end of its detail, which acts as the character's signature, whatever it may be. This is ONLY the character's name, signifying who made the item. This is unique because in time, no matter who the items goes to, that maker's mark forever remains on it as part of the item and seen in the equipment detailing. This is special for those who take the time to grow Nanthalion's largest Potato ever or a painter who creates a masterpiece themed from an event.

How do I know what to enter for the auction?
Well first, look at your character's skills. Those should tell you what your character can do and what you'd want to auction off. Secondly, see f the ongoing auction has a set theme and spring off of it from there. Auctions at the Bazaar normally will have themes, like for seasons or corresponding events or interests. Use those as a platform. If you're ever in doubt, just go IC with a worker or manager and discuss it. In the case of events, there will be many clues as to what sort of items are sought after. Any skill level can enter, but keep in mind that your skill level WILL effect the quality of work you do. A novice will not produce a masterpiece.

What do items up for auction look like?
They're posted in the auction thread, and they look like this:
Title: Howling Wolf
Artisan: Lumio
Item Base: Medium Porcelain Doll
Quality: Expert
Detail: A porcelain figure in the form of a howling wolf, sculpted to seem fur covered & glazed opalescent onyx with ruby glass eyes. [Lumio]

Some "details" may be too long, and will need to either be shortened for the shopitem or have one shopitem version and another version for the buyer's Notes page on their Character Profile. Take note of the item base, as that will be the item ID used for the item itself. Links for pictures should be shrunk down tiny, and are used for the Notes area, not the item detail because the link can break and the detail be lost then.

Why should I do an auction when I can freelance?
Well for one, the hard part is done for you. That part being, finding customers willing to spend coin and catering to an audience as well as having everything done in an organized manner with little work on your part and having it advertised and cost you nothing but your time. Oh, and shopitems. That addition is just awesome when it comes to a maker's mark and leaving a footprint in the world of Belariath. Above all, it's fun! It's a chance for play and to showcase your character's skills, and get them more known. It's also a chance for earning coin. The more descriptive your detail and the more work you put into it, the higher your chance at success and profit.

How do I submit an item or service?
Well you have to do that ICly, with a manager or auctioneer. You want to have an idea of what you want to submit, including a title, description, and of course.. plan for worklogs. if asked, you need to provide worklogs showing you crafted the item either before it goes up for auction or during. This proves you put the time into it. Not all will be asked for logs due to either it being seen played out or it's a service, where only proof of skill is needed or known. When an auction is being set up, the manager will give you permission to post to the auction thread in the required format. That enters your item or service.

What happens if I bid on a service and the player doesn't complete it?
Unless there is good OOC reason for it, such will not be permitted. If that's the case, attention will be brought to the OPs, logs shown, and with any luck you will get a refund and the character will have the amount deducted from their coin.

What if I don't want a certain person bidding on my item or service?
Tell the auctioneer or manager who is in charge, and/or an Op. They will deal with it politely.

Ghost bids? What is that??
Ghost bids are bids placed by people who cannot attend the auction. How it works, is someone says "I will pay a max of ___ for that item" and that is their cap. The item is then marked with a Ghost Bid, so people are aware of it but not the cap price that the bidder is willing to pay. If no one out bids the ghost bidder, the ghost bidder pays 10mhl over the final bid made IC. So if their cap is 100mhl, but the last bidder bids 70mhl, the ghost bidder pays 80mhl for the item. They never pay over their cap. If the cap is tied, the item goes to the person who is IC. If multiple people ghost bid on an item, only the top ghost bid counts because it automatically outbids the other ghost bidders.
