let's start the new year off just having art challenges, for anyone to participate in. i consider poetry and writing an artform too! so throw up your Poser or Daz Studio work, your poetry, whatever you like!

let's make art based on the changing weather in belariath! type !weather in des and see what's going on! what's up with the weather?? how would your character look in this season's finest? did someone just buy a whole bunch of warmer clothes? or something more revealing for keeping warm under the covers, hmm? let's do some art!

*Some people just don't like winter. It is a fact. Every season has its haters. Winter especially, for there are so many things people cannot, should not, or simply out and out won't do in the snow and the ice. Swimming under your favourite bridge? Unless you a frost troll, that might be straight suicide. Go for a pleasant hunt in the forest? Feel free to load yourself down with furs and a heavy cloak. Yes, the winter can be outright ruinous for some.*

witness now as the flakes begin to fall
the end of autumn as we know it
for the winter's blessed touch now
caresses along our spines gingerly
whispering to me of promises to come

my heart sings as the blanket begins
every downed frozen droplet a treasure
crystals so delicate by their lonesome
but as one grand creation so powerful
to stop all who come across it with wonder

in radiance of changing seasons
fire-coloured leaves lined with frost
like a grand confectioner's gala
every tree looking like a treat
to be tasted and nibbled upon slowly

my footsteps run along river's edge
knowing soon the ripples will not be seen
but underneath the icy crust
much like a pie of pure cold
would have currents running deep and fast

blades which have remained wrapped
o'er course of the entire year
for have I not needed their presence
upon my migration to this land
finally come out to caress the skies

care I not for the creature comforts
when have I within my grasp
world of gentle winter's blessing
to fully dive into like azure ocean
swimming through every sensation

even those who embrace Gaea's call
wrapping themselves in robes of wool
fear the frost's unwelcome arrival
howling and mewling their prayers
to beseech She Who Is All to be merciful

my nature surges within me fiercely
like conflagration in drought-touched plains
yet where one would beg of flames
only the snowbanks and shrubbery
look upon the city from afar wistfully

kiss my throat does the first winds
like a lover who has returned from war
and my arms do fold around myself
while I spin and leap in pure ecstasy
as glorious fall descends for the year

shall this winter be my first here
with none of what I have once known
around to give me false consolation
and only my season of sleep and rebirth
will bring unto my heart sweet solace
