Oct. Week 2 Creative Art/Writing Challenge - Water

Postby One on Sun Oct 09, 2011 6:15 am

this challenge is open to any typical form of art or expression, including 2D, 3D, poetry and short stories.

---

even if it's not your element, perhaps unconsciously the mind still orients itself to water. whether you are inland or on the coast, whether the river cuts a path through your land or the lake rests like silver glass within a mile's ride from you .. ever present is our preoccupation with the simmer of a breaking wave through beach stones or the near-silent current of a majestic river.

nearer, more intimate .. the hot baths that breathe steam veils into the torch-lit quiet of public halls and quiet homes - the waterfalls that drench desperate bodies twisting - the autumn rain that creates the fragrant mire into which we trip writhing prey for the taking. cool fountain, slough of froth and hot rinse along taut bellies ..

your challenge this week is to create a writing or art piece that makes water the defining factor.

I always enjoy looking at Stormbringer's work.

-Tears among the Rain-

Can you see them yet?
The tears among the rainfall?
They're falling for you.

Be still, watch them fall
They'll always fall with the rain
For you love the rain.

Can you feel my heart?
I put it in the raindrops...
don't leave them untouched.

They still fall for you
anywhere it rains today
because I love you.

--I decided to go for haiku this time.--
Let the blood flow,
Let the tears fall,
Open your tired eyes
And realize that you're just too late.

so hey - after this week, i won't be posting challenges any more. because my involvement with it was never 'official,' i won't be 'appointing' anyone or anything .. so if someone wants to take up the sexytime mantle, please feel free.

thanks for reading, looking, and posting!

*After a few weeks in Hurema'Inca, one realizes something very important: water is part and parcel of the city's existence. Given it's location and all, one would think such obvious. However, that is not the case for every city, town, or village situated close to great bodies of water. Some of them seem to dedicate themselves to fire. especially those situated close to mountain rivers. That's mainly to appease Uvelcra, as nobody wants to have an angry god knocking on their doorstep. Well, nobody sane that is.*

None Here Is Responsible For The Starlight
by Dasan, druid of Sheykan descent

could I now fall asleep
floating on top of the supple waves
but such would not be wise
as there is more for me to do here
within this pond in my homeland's forest
for is it my task to dive underneath
the shimmering surface of this water
finding not fish but strange plants underwater
bringing them to surface slowly one by one
until all needs are met by the shaman elders

could I easily drift away
letting the weak breeze direct me
drifting like the leaves do in spring
and enjoy the peace given at this time
for is there none around to shame me
or mock me with cutting phrase and word
which have I been told bear well on my shoulders
as if were I one of the slaves held here
though the others treat them far better in verse
knowing few will ever rise to my rise
like high tides of the seas I was told of

could I now sink to bottom of this lake
never to rise again
perhaps to drown and die and disappear
or mayhaps to meet a lady under the water
one who breathes as easily as I would above it
becoming her servant or lover or both
for such would be a better dream
than waking life I have now and here
would I barely be missed by any
what few things I have divvied up with glee
to the many who call me outcast
and barely grazed my shoulder before

could I do so many things
but it is my honour which keeps me here
something those who hide lips behind hands
mocking me with their tones and eyes
shall never truly understand
for are they the ones tainted well
shall their hidden lusts be shown like fire
when I am far and away and safe at last
as I refuse to be washed away
by either their craven beliefs and phrases
or by heavy rains of spring
will I be like the great trees themselves
welcoming the water cascading down
taking it all in through my roots
and becoming great because of them
