A report on Ray`el's Desk

*gwyn finishes writing the report in the guest room in the castle in Thallis in which she spent the night, then pads to Master Ray`el's office, folding the pages in half once she's sure the ink is dry and setting them on His desk, writing His name on the outside to draw His attention and setting a small object from His desk on the edge to weight it down.*
Master Ray`el, as you requested, a report of the mission she took part in earlier in the week.
gwyn responded to a call to investigate a reported conflict at the Fort of Old Eskaria. On the day arranged, she met at the docks in Thallis with several others, namely:
Abby- Human - mercenary
Zully- merfolk- mage
Dragovar- Draksen- mage
Amara- catgirl
Erynelin sylvan elf- ranger?
Aurin sylvan elf
Amriel- moriel
We went by ship, south, for several ours, staying within sight of the coast, mostly. The trip itself was uneventful.
Coming up to the fort, we could see about a score of figures on the beach, dressed in odd cloaks of a fabric gwyn has not seen before, a glittery, glossy fabric that brought to mind insect eyes. One of these soldiers, armed with lances, noticed the ship and fired a warning shot across the bow.. a red beam of light that was more sound than fury. It was however, enough to scare off the coward of a captain, leaving the ship adrift. Shots came next from the tower, energy bolts, gwyn believes, down onto the soldiers below, and more soldiers emerged from the forest, with a Woman in the lead. Several of my shipmates went overboard and waded in to shore while gwyn and Zully secured the ship so it would actually be there to take us home again.
The Woman, who was dressed as a soldier and had purple eyes, talked to those that made it to shore, and, I discovered later, convinced them that we had been sent there to aid them. Meanwhile the 'healer' among the soldiers on the ground, bandaged a flesh wound and killed another of his own men rather than healing him, and threw the body into the water. Zully became angry, and yelled at the man about dumping the dead into the ocean, gwyn was angry for different reasons, which she's sure she does not need to explain.
As gwyn got to shore, the woman, Striia was her name, was speaking of what she hoped to accomplish. She claimed that those in the tower were theives, who had stolen a relic from her Lord, and that said relic was of a personal nature, with no power or real value. She seemed to be afraid of being punished for failure, and said she had a plan for taking the tower. Most of the party seemed amenable to this, and none were actually listening to gwyn's concerns that this wasn't what we'd been sent to do. So, gwyn yeilded to the will of the Free, but with caution.
She led us to a drain pipe, about 5 feet high and eight wide that lead into the hill towards the tower. There was a man inside, an injured enemy who was throwing energy bolts out towards us. Her plan was for us to go in there, take out this injured man, then go up a ladder into the tower and secure it from the inside while her men attacked from without. None of us were in any hurry to go into that death trap, but Striia kept pushing for us to hurry hurry, rush in and not plan. Finally Zully turned to mist and went inside while Abby used her tower sheild for protection and stormed him more directly. gwyn gave Miss Amara her leash, and followed, reluctantly. gwyn cannot be certain she did not miss any details that happened while inside that pipe, as she was not quite herself at the time.
There was a brief battle with the man at the end of the pipe, which he lost. He was wounded but alive when gwyn reached him, and Abby spoke of leaving him that way so we could get some information before we stormed the tower. Striia did not want to take the time for that, or at least that is what she claimed, and killed the man before gwyn could get to him to heal him enough to be useful. She whispered somethign to him first, but gwyn couldn't hear what was said, maybe someone else in the group did though. gwyn had a very strong feeling by this point that something was wrong with this whole scenario, but still, no One was listening to her.
Master Carthad arrived at this time, He'd taken His own boat when He missed meeting up with us. Zully went back out the drain to the water to see what He could scry about what was going on. The Woman Striia, was egging the group on, up into the well rising to the tower, but gwyn asked Master Carthad to see what information He could get from the dead man. He was gathering His magics when She interruped Him and convinced Him to head up into the tower instead. gwyn restrained herself from stabbing the Woman in the heart, in case she was actually an ally.
When Master Carthad opened the hatch into the tower, we could hear fighting. Zully returned and asked some questions about what we were actually looking for, He'd seen something about a girl, Striia said the girl was nothing, and we were wasting time. Most of us went up after Master Carthad to help Him in the battle, including gwyn. Abby came last as she couldn't fly up and had to climb a rope. Zully went ahead of gwyn but was gone from the room when she emerged. The fighting ended with a few injuries on our side, and everyone dead on theirs.
Just as the last of the enemy was falling,Zully came rushing down the stairs with a Woman behind Him. Striia was just emerging from the well at this point, and she took one look at the woman behind Zully, a woman clutching a book to her chest, and swore, dropping down into the darkness below. More of Striia's men were approaching and, while Zully took off down the well after the fleeing Striia, another battle began. Master Carthad followed down the well, leaving gwyn with orders to call if He was needed. Once more it ended with no fatalities on our side and all dead on theirs. Master Carthad had come back and dispatched the last of Them, One who was trying to kill gwyn. We didn't wait around for more of the enemy to arrive. Master Carthad tossed all the bodies down the well and we followed. This time, He took gwyn's leash, and, we loaded the bodies onto a floating disk at His request and, thankfully, got out of there.
Zully killed Striia, gwyn is not sure if Her body made it into Master Carthad's collection or not. We discovered the ship we'd arrived on in flames, and Master Carthad's men had moved His deeper out to sea, so we set out on foot for home.
Later in camp, there was some talk while gwyn made dinner. The woman Zully had rescued is named Eskaia, she's a mermaid. She said Striia, despite what she looked like was not an elf but a Sarenheit. From what she said, a Sarenheit is to a mermaid what a Spirette is to a Chirot; a twisted race begun by some corrupted individual. Eskaia claims to have come from another world, not of Belariath, she left her world, Firdas, was dying and she convinced some to flee here with her. One left behind twisted the Sarenheit then brought them with them to Belariath as his slaves. Apparently there has been battles with this evil one in the past. Unfortunately, that is all gwyn learned, because she was drawn off to set up the tent for Master Carthad. However, He did bring several bodies of the enemy with Him, she does not know if He thought to call back and question any of them before he.. did whatever He does with them.
gwyn will keep an ear out for any new information, and she'll see if she can find Zully Sir to speak with Him in more detail. she thinks it best if she does not approach Master Carthad about the dead, as He was most displeased with her suggestion to the grieving Eskaia that Her friends could be resurrected. As it seems to gwyn that this Lord Striia spoke of is unlikely to stop searching for Eskaia and this relic she carries, and as this seems to focus around the merfolk and the water and sea, she thought it information You should have. Whether it has any bearing on the current troubles in THallis she does not know, but it is quite a coincidence they started soon after we returned.
