Sphere Feats

Postby Ithilwen on Tue May 12, 2020 4:27 pm

I'm sure many of us have had one point or another thought how neat it would be if we could hold two advance classes, or go into a third class. The problem is how does one make this fair, and there is a possible solution borrowing off of D&D and Pathfinders feat system.

This idea works as an advance feature for players who have finished up there basic leveling path. What is the basic level path you might ask. The basic level path is the character levels from level 1 up to level thirty. This system is meant to fill in the gaps between level thirty-one to level sixty.

Okay so this system is at its most basic concept the ability to give people access to additional spell spheres, or to allow them to reinforce there spell spheres based on there class, duel class or advance class. Similar to how leveling works they will gain access to one of these Sphere Feats every five levels. This means they will have a total of six of these feats.

LV. 35
LV. 40
LV. 45
LV. 50
LV. 55
lV. 60

Now there are a few restrictions on how this works.

1. You may only choose spheres of magic that are related to the classes your character is.

2. You can not use these feats to gain access to advance class magic. Example taking the arcane sphere feat, and then trying to use that to gain access to the earth sphere feat.

3. Physical classes can only take basic Sphere feats. (This means base class magic classes)

4. you can not gain access to a sphere of magic your race would normally not have access to.

5. you do not gain access to the class stats associated with that sphere of magic, only access to the spheres magic.

How the feats works

Each time you take a feat you will be considered a x1 of that respective class. This will give you basic access to that spheres magic. You can take a feat multiple time to gain access to higher levels magic. You however can not go beyond half the full level of that class. For base sphere feats this is x3 and for advance sphere feats this is x2. This means for base sphere feats you can at most get access to the x3 spells and for the advance sphere gain access to the x2 sphere.

There is an exception to this and that comes to class sphere reinforcement. If the sphere you are taking matches a sphere of magic your class, advance class or duel classed with. The feat will count as another instance of you taking that class without the stat bonus. At current there is no plans to allow players to use this to go beyond the x7 or x5 max for base and advance classes respectively.

Example Cases for these we will assume the player is of the correct race.

Example 1

Healer x3/Water mage x3

this player would have access to the following spell spheres through there class.

Healer - Healing sphere, Sexual Sphere
Water Mage - Water/Ice Sphere, Arcana Sphere, Spirit Sphere, Divine sphere

Lv. 35 Healing sphere
Lv. 40 Healing sphere
Lv. 45 Healing Sphere
Lv. 50 Healing Sphere
Lv. 55 Water/Ice Sphere
Lv. 60 Water/Ice sphere

In this example the player has chosen to use there Sphere feats to reinforce there class choices. This allows them to gain access to healing sphere x7 and water/ice sphere x5 spells.

Example 2

Mist Raider x2/Mage x4

Mist Raider - Spirit Sphere, Nature Sphere, Symphonic Sphere, Ilussion sphere
Mage - Arcana Sphere, Water/Ice Sphere, Wind sphere, earth sphere, fire sphere, necromancy sphere, sexual sphere.

Lv. 35 spirit sphere
Lv. 40 spirit sphere
Lv. 45 spirit sphere
Lv. 50 nature sphere
Lv. 55 nature sphere
Lv. 60 Arcana Sphere

In this case we show an advance physical class gain access to magic they normally wouldn't have. This player has chosen to take spirit sphere x3 allowing them to learn spirit sphere x3 spells. Has taken nature sphere x2 given them access to the nature sphere x2 spells, and has decided to reinforce there access to the arcana sphere given them access to arcana sphere x5 spells.

Example 3

Thief x 7

Thief - Arcana sphere, Spirit sphere, symphonic sphere, nature sphere, illusion sphere

Lv. 35 Spirit Sphere
Lv. 40 Spirit Sphere
Lv. 45 Arcana Sphere
Lv. 50 Arcana Sphere
Lv. 55 Arcana Sphere
Lv. 60 Nature Sphere

In this example the player has chosen to take there base class to its max level. This class is also a physical class, so it gains access to the basic magic spheres. Note that due to the player class they do not have access to the divine sphere, or healing sphere despite them being base magic spheres. This is because thief can not duel class with cleric or healer class normally. So in this instance the player has access to arcana sphere x3 which is the most the player can take for a base magic sphere. This allows the thief character to use x3 arcana sphere, x2 spirit sphere and x1 nature sphere spells.

I am not sure how the illusion sphere would work under this system, since the only way to gain access to it normally would be to either take the bard or mage class. I realize as the writer that this is not a simple system to institute into the system, because it requires a few things to be programmed.

1. check player classes, if base class what class can the base class advance into and what sphere of magic do they have access to.

2. check player class for advance class what base classes does this advance from and what sphere of magic do those base classes have access to.

3. check player race against the results of the first two fields to make sure they would normally be able to access that sphere of magic.

4. Check classes against each other to make sure there are no class incompatibilities. I.e. spell sphere not being learnable do to duel class restrictions.

5. output results as a drop down list to player to select from.

6. make sure the player has access to chosen spell sphere at base level, or additional levels.

7. make sure if same spell sphere they have access to is added as them having access to that sphere +1 for each time that sphere feat is taking.

8. check sphere levels to make sure they do not go above x3 or x2 based on being basic or advance. Make sure if player is reinforcing spell sphere they all ready know it doesn't go past the max for that spell sphere.

Man that's just way too complex for the kind of game we are running here, I'm sorry.
