Half-Breed Mating

Postby Lilly Essor on Tue Mar 02, 2010 11:42 pm

This is more of a question of clarity which might bring about a suggestion, if what I think is the way it is. In the Races Section of the Website, it says
Also half-breeds are considered sterile, so they cannot have descendents involving any more complex mix of races.

My question is this: can half-breeds mix with their "parents" race, ie can a Half-Elf/Human mate with a Human, Elf, or another Half-Elf to form a "mix" of not-as-complex races? Obviously, the descendants would be considered the same mix of races as the half-breed in the couple.

If they were born sterile, that would negate any possibility of them having children no matter who or what the other race was.

ya know that's something that's been nagging at me for years but I never bothered to ask cause it's not that big of an issue with my characters. Shouldn't it just read halfbreeds are sterile and cannot have offspring? The way it's worded now is kinda misleading.

Yeah, that was my thought .. the addition of "so they cannot have descendents involving any more complex mix of races." at first made me think that, say, a half-elf and a Torian couldn't reproduce, but a half-elf and an elf could.. but then the "sterile" bit contradicts that. But thankies for the certainity on it :-)

The intention was also to clarify that a half-breed parent of the character could not have had children, and so negate the desire of some players to get a more complex mix, rather than just relating to the actual character being able to breed.

It was based on something like 'well what if my mother was a half-sylvan half-moriel and my father was a torian' argument, not just something applied to the future but also to the past.

LOL that reminds of my D&D days when a certain player would try to be like half this and that to make some crazy combination to exploit the game. thanks for clearing it up.

As a DM, in my games i ruled that Half breeds cone only breed there parentage or other half breeds... and after the half orc/human/elf... got killed by the rampaging herd of rabid miniature giant nut eating dire squirrels, they stopped thinking about making them.
