Monks and Unarmed Combat

Postby Daimyon on Wed Aug 30, 2017 5:53 pm

Something that struck me as odd, as I was reading through the monk class page is that while the description of the class describes them as being able to hit as hard with their fists as any weapon (quote below), they don't gain any inherent bonuses to unarmed combat, nor can they gain the benefit from attack enchantments unless they use something like wooden knuckle dusters.

They do gain a good amount of armor to make up for the lack of armor they can own/wear, but the class seems to fall short on offensive benefits, despite their description.

Quote from the class description: Preferring to quarrel unarmed and unarmored, even more dexterous than the cunning thief whose perfected the knife, they are capable of striking as hard and with as much force faster then a knight or warrior with his blade due to their meticulous and stringent training.

This is due to changes overtime.
Originally monks gained phyatk and phydef up to +40
This was changed to the current phydef and magdef up to +25
The desc doesnt cover the content anymore.

What do you mean by the description doesn't cover the content?

I am not sure how to be any more clear.
You noted the mechanics fall short of the desc. You are right.
It used to be as described. The mechanic was changed later due to balance.
