Alright. I mentioned this elsewhere but now the floor is open. So, apologies if this sounds slightly reminiscent of what I said before.

When I heard that the Divine spell sphere was made for RP and not for much systemic use, I was a little sad. I know that there's a Healer class for all of the healing needs, and there are Paladins for the more combative half of the setup. So, really, Clerics don't have much of a place to belong in the world and should be down among the Laymen and the Artesian classes if that's the viewpoint.

I don't like that one.

Though, if I could suggest another viewpoint: Why not give the cleric the systemic position of the "Defender" in addition to its current setup of cursing and decursing. So that they have a place in the nitty-gritty without sacrificing the fact that they aren't supposed to be properly combative, as reflected by their disadvantageous qualities in a close fight. We already started to get there via the benefit of gaining resistance when orating and the Shielding Hand spell. Can we push that up some more and make it a defining thing?

After all, nothing should be able to hurt a person under the protection of a devout cleric. Make it selfless, even. Only for other people. I'm sure we could dream up a range of spells that do that and make a person decide between the Holy sphere and the Divine sphere. Or something. I'm bad with names. But two spheres, maybe. Make 'em pick up per Cleric x 5.

Sound okay? I mean, then we could keep the non-aggressive standpoint that I hear Stormbringer was going for and still give the Cleric more than some OOC consent curses.

I think you may have misread or misunderstood what Infernis said. I'll try to break it down.

Its not that he wanted Cleric away from 'aggressive' spells. And clerics do have spells that are considered aggressive.

Its simply that cleric is over done in the field medic department. We have Healers for that. A unique outlook on cleric was needed.

Curses and blessings seemed a decent way to go. But thats hardly saying thats where they should stay. I'm hardly an expert on Clerics, I've only ever played one and had a good bit of fun with it.

Not putting down your thoughts or agreeing with them, merely clarifying.

This might be a bit late for such, but I'd like to chip in on my opinion of where I find slyphs lacking -- or, rather, nymphs in general. Their first restriction pops out to me as a bit out-of-place with the general impression I get from the elemental gals.

Nymphs are filled with an instinctive desire to preserve and serve life. They are incapable of killing any human or humanoid being, and find it very nearly impossible to take the life of even the smallest animals. They are able to defend themselves, to the best of their abilities, using defensive spells and non-lethal magic, if they possess it.

While I can understand and get in the mind of a character who adores "Nature" and the "Natural Order" of things (think: Druid), placing such a broad 'nice' restriction on Nymphs seems a bit too out-of-it to me, especially since the description suggests it's easier for a Nymph to strangle a baby than someone who might actually, in the vein of protecting nature, deserve it.

I'd like to see Nymphs have the capacity to reflect a darker image of nature, to a somewhat limited extent. Maybe they have a distrust for people, or can hurt people if they can "rationalize a personal revenge for nature" -- the broad wording is intentional, for me. A nymph might be vindictive against a trapper, for instance, for killing an animal to wear, but would have a much more difficult time wishing ill on those who simply wear the fur. I do still agree with the overall cheery demeanor. Doing that would make a Slyph, in particular, much more likely for me to play, even if it came with a penalty -- such as a removal of the natural defensive shield per 2/levels they get after willfully harming a living creature, and/or reductions in their other natural abilities.

I would also suggest making it nearly impossible for them to kill a "non-sentient" animal, or eat meat in general. Just seems to go against their creedo, unless they're a Fire Nymph, where that might not apply so strictly.

Alexis - Thank you for your comments/suggestions. All are taken into account by the Dev team and are appreciated.

For the time being, look into our Duessa race.

I find Duessa just a bit too... specific?.. for my interests, too. I understand that Nymphs in general are meant to be more of the extremes as far as personality and role-in-belariath go, and if it's decided to be kept that way it'd be fine with me. The "nymphs are super-nice and couldn't hurt anything!" and "Duessa crave pain" restrictions aren't in my RP-tastes, but the concepts beyond that are. That's all!

I would argue for some sort of merger between basic spiritual aspects (Ie Water, Fire, Earth) with the Ogre race to give them a more defined and varied role to play in Belariath.

Thoughts on Magi---

I know its been brought up a few times now, but I tend to agree with a few players that mentioned having the magi own a 'religion' to Morpheous and being able to perhaps, take a secondary Magi Class of Priest and perform Resurrections.

Just thoughts but good thoughts from them none the less. (Or so I think! I know.. I know, and there was much laughter :D)

I am not too certain about needing a secondary class for the Magi characters, but it would be nice for those whom are dedicated to the more peaceful and/ or defensive arts to have the ability to resurrect characters. I know I proposed such previously, but it had been turned down. Currently I know my focus has been mostly the magic of the Magi, but there could be other tweaks made as well. Not necessarily to armour and weapon classes - which mirror the Warrior Mage advanced class, and that does make sense to me. I was wondering, however, about whether a race that is pretty much "reconstructed with Magic" would have other bonuses/ hindrances whenever dealing with certain situations that involved either a plethora of magic or a complete lack of magic.

The Jade temple does cover the religious side of the magi so I think having the priest class wouldn't really be necessary, though I agree with Pry that having a resurrection/healing type spell being available to the more peaceful magi would be quite awesome. Nothing that would replace healers, but something.

On the topic of Nixies and Pixies, I sadly have not much to say on them. I know there -are- players of both around that should actually be up here commenting. I do not know if they will, or if they are in fact happy with how the paired races have worked out thus far. I know there has been some confusion in the past as to whether or not anything attached to their bodies (such as clothing and weapons) would and/or should shrink down with them whenever they are changing in size. I've never read their pages personally, so I don't know if that is spelled out somewhere.

Mayhaps some more could be done about "their place in the world" of Belariath. Everything seems to exist for a reason, from trolls to satyrs, goblins to minotaur. In the discussion about Nixies and Pixies, will that also be covered? As I am sure they exist as more than mirthful buckets of fluff. Sure, they aren't going around engaging in wars or investing centuries creating magical scrolls, but they've got to be up to something sooner or later.

Back unto the topic of Magi. It'd be nice if more people actually could be enticed to read over the revised and revamped history of the Magi. With all the work that has been done to enrich them, I find it a little disheartening they still don't get the love I believe they deserve. Biased, yes, but there is quite a bit to be said about what can actually be done with the Magi.

One of the main reasons I wanted something for resurrections for the Magi is that right now there's no real mechanics for if a Magi dies, who takes care of them? Sure, there's not that many of the race floating around in the game to begin with. (I know. I've counted.) However, without a "Priesthood Of Morpheous" roaming around with random races within, I don't see how the Magi could have resurrections. I don't see them "borrowing" local clerics from around different towns all the time to chill out at Space Mountain. (Yes, I just -had- to throw in a Ric Flair reference.) Unless, of course, something would/ could be added in to the newly established canon for them that would allow for something of a non-Magi priesthood that took care of such needs.

So a thought on the satyr's and well all the horned races I suppose, could give the horns a atk value. Or at the least in the case of Satyrs maybe giving them a headbutt skill for an added attack and a bit more incentive to play the race.

As for bards.. I do feel their magic encroaches into many of the sexual spheres powers making the seductress all but obsolete in value.. as I am more hoping to fix this problem by helping fix the seductress though I see no real reason to go tearing it down. The one thought I did have though as the spells are all supposed to be part of songs is perhaps making delays in the songs for when certain spells can be used. Examples being a simple bard spell can be used at the begginning of a song but to use a more advanced spell the song has to have been being played for a few more posts.
