Letter to Ehlanna [ in character, written ]

To Miss Ehlanna,
As up until recently, you were in the books as being one of the co-owners of the Might Makes Right, I am addressing this letter to you. Have I tried to send missive to you in order to speak with you personally, but such was in vain. Your schedule takes you far and wide through Nanthalion Province, and as such finding a moment when you are available is... difficult, at best.
Have I already reported this incident to Miss Miyuka - that is Lady Valentine of the Imperial Guard. I thought it most appropriate to inform you as well due to the still lingering absence of my beloved manager, Miss AltaNova.
The incident concerns a well known individual to the Nanthalion Province, one mage named Alren. As have I learned, he is also in a position of note within the Tower of Unigo, which makes his actions more aggravating to one such as I. However, I digress. Approxiametely two week-ends previous from date of this letter, did I arrive very late to the Might Makes Right. When I came in, I found a verbal altercation already in place, between Alren himself and Meadow, concubine of Sorgram. The man's words were, at best, condescending and at worst threatening. Typical of the lands, yes, but not typical where he was standing. He was, in fact, in the back rooms attempting to learn how to work with mithril. Taken right from the crates and using the forge as if it was his own.
Did I confront him about this, but was it to no true avail. He insisted that he was just "learning something" and that I, as a member of the Might Makes Right, was effectively denying him knowledge. Some of his exact phrasing was the following during the exchange:
"I havn't removed it from the premis.. and it's actually working the product.. thus.. adding value.. it'd be like trying to get someone in trouble for comming in and cleaning your home.. also.. the shop is opened .. your here.. and medow is here.. it's a dangerous precedent to try and get customers turned away or arrested because you don't personally like them pry.. gee.. I thought you'd be an honerable man and try and teach others as you said you would.. but I'm not the only person that's held up trying to learn how to smith this stuff.. not the only person that you're hoarding that knowlege from so here I am.. it's not your shop it's the empire and you're trying to make yourself a lordling by maintaining full controll of this little sliver aren't you.. Altanova is mostly gone.. and so is Stormwind these days.. I'm happy to learn at home if you can guarentee me the right to build my own forge.. can you do that?"
First of all, he had no right nor privilege to come into the store and touch anything within the back room. That is only for those who work within the Might Makes Right.
Secondly, I made no such claim that I am the one to teach all and sundry how to work mithril. I had to search high and wide to find those who ended up mentoring me in the metal. It was not either Stormwind or Miss AltaNova who bestowed the information of either mithril or jewelry crafting upon this darkened brow of mine. As well, I am not hoarding the information at all, for do I have apprentices whom I am showing the skill to, and fellow workers whom I am watching over their development of skill.
Third, the title of 'lordling' I found vile and vigorously insulting. There are none of my people from my village who had ever been given such a name. Was there none needed. As well, as the assistant manager of the Might Makes Right, am I responsible for everything that is bought, sold, and made within that store. 'Lordlings' only need sit on their behinds and watch the money be shoveled in for them. I work for what I have earned within that building.
Finally, whom is he to ask me to ensure something about a forge at home? Can't he just go to the office of real estate and purchase the basic building for one like I did? From there, I purchased everything necessary to do extra work for the Might Makes Right at home, as well as any custom requests we receive or are sent to us from The Works or The General Store - in case such ever happens.
I did attempt to douse the flames within the forge itself, but the man used his unfortunately impressive magics to stop me. Namely, he struck the bucket from my hands before the throw was complete. The force of the magic was enough to have the bucket - heavy enough without water within it- cast across the entirety of the back room. Privately was I ashamed, knowing that mere finger waggling was able to stop me from my duties, and as such I know that blindly trying to strike him down with blade would have been a less than useless endeavour.
More of his words during this all:
"First off Pry.. I don't really care what you like and don't.. it doesn't matter if someone is working at a shop, they can still get beat up and rapped for insutling a customer.. and let me assure you your asisstaint certainally did that. What you're talking about is the right to refuse entry to the shop and to use the IG as your personal guard.. lordling.. go ahead and write a letter.. I'll pay the empire for what they deem is needed to make amends for any supplys. though I doubt they'll want much of anything at all. In either case.. all of this can simply be averted by hiring me and teaching me.. but your ego isn't going to allow for that now is it 'lordling' pry?" he said with a mock bow. "As it is.. I assure yout that I'll have a talk with Meadow's owner and take up the way she treated me with him.. he owes me.. and if he doesn't take care of matters with me and settle it, then I'll take the matter to him personaly. I understand that you wish to controll things in 'your' shop.. but you're hampering theh progress of knowlege, and .. no.. the REB doesn't sell forges to everyone.. so here.. I will stay untill I'm finished with it. I expect you to either hireme and work with me, or get the hell out of my way,"
He honestly believes that he will be hired by the Might Makes Right by the virtue of him being him. He truly believes I will teach him whatever he insists because he has magical might. Oh yes, and apparently the real estate board does not sell forges to everyone. Of the three things, he was partially right in the third respect: I bought a stone barn large enough to house a few horses and converted it into a forge. It took a bit of discussion with the people that were there at the time, but eventually I managed to make it happen. Perhaps because it was part and parcel of my work for the Might Makes Right. Could I personally care less about what he has upon his property, but someone that rumoured to have a temple somewhere on his lands to some deity nobody knew of for at least a decade can't get something together to heat metal and make his own horseshoes? Something smells false there.
If you wish for my swatted memory to give you an exact byplay of everything that happened during that night, I will be more than happy to... after I get back from being dead. For you see, there was one last set of kind words that my darling guest had for me even as we locked up the shoppe with him still inside:
"Nope.. not leaving.. And at this point.. I'll just rely on the books in unigo.. learning the old ways. You're.. hrmm.. not really all that reasonable of a man really.. nor do you wish to settle things just as us civialy and just hire me. Thank the gods.. you're .. boring.. OH.. Pry.. If you don't hire me the next time I see you.. I'm going to kill you. Ta ta"
Let him try to learn from books alone. If one could do that, I would have entered the building with the knowledge of mithril underneath my fingertips. He will not be hired by me. He will not be taught by me. If he learns from anyone else in the Might Makes Right, then he does. So if he kills me, so be it. I should have enough 'lordling' money to cover the expense of being risen from the dead.
Thought you might be interested, is all. Oh yes, and the bell for the Imperial Guard was rung throughout this incident.
They didn't show.
And yes, was this all brought up with Lady Valentine, but am I certain am I a dead man. This suits me just fine, for the final insult will be when he slays me and he still doesn't get what he wants. Not from me, at least.
[ at this point, the letter would be signed and dated appropriately. ]

OOC notes:
No flaming. No cursing. No flinging daggers.
This entire incident was in game, in character.
Everything that is posted here is ALSO in game, in character.
The letter would only find its way to Ehlanna. Out of character wise, she asked for me to post it here. Originally this was supposed to be done in character, in game, in person. However schedules prevent that from happening.
And to address some of the out of character issues that can be gleaned from this, people can talk to me in person if/ when I am in channel. The issue with the private forges is something mentioned elsewhere on the forums. Namely, private forges that people had wanted to make their own items with without buying them at the various stores. That issue is addressed already in another thread. The main reason Prydain has a forge is to bring work home and then bring it back completed. Nothing that cuts out the Might Makes Right or other locales that make metal work. Anything and everything Prydain's worked on has been for the store and been purchased through regular channels. One other thing is the "restricted skills," meaning ones you have to have a teacher for. A good OOC idea would be to have a list of characters that could teach some of these restricted skills. I know that is mainly what the Work and Workers Thread - viewforum.php?f=59 , and the Mentors Thread - viewforum.php?f=61 , are meant for. Meaning the solution to that issue would be more of the players themselves posting what they are able to tutor.
