Of Northern Barbarians, and Wolven

Brief notes about things that are being talked about at the Inn. Not to provide OOC knowledge but events that happened in the open and which other characters could overhear as public gossip. Does not replace the newspaper.

Shaka:
News travels fast in these lands. So fast, that the Dark Lord was on his afternoon ride when one of his messengers sought him out with a missive. Dismissing the girl with a wave of the hand, ShaKa unrolled the parchment and perused the writing. It was only moments later he rolled it back up and stashed it into his cloak. A very wide smile grew upon his lips, parted momentarily only by the tip of his tongue. He had told them...he told them all that tribes could not be trusted.

With a heavy sigh, reins snapped and sent his horse lurching forward. He would make his way back to his property and prepare several 'rooms' for the uninvited guests he believed were encroaching upon the Imperial lands.

"Blood and Despair...that is the only language some savages will understand..."

ShaKa paused his preparations only to pen letters of warning to the other nobles who attended the 'meeting' up north:

'Watch the savages. They are not as stupid as we believe. Any transgression in my presence will be severely punished, as they only understand primitive stimulus and response'

Sending them off with one of his swiftest messengers, ShaKa leaned back in his chair, fingers coming together to form a steeple, and waited.
"Fear. Fear attracts the fearful. The strong. The weak. The innocent. The corrupt. Fear. Fear is my ally."

"Taste. Come to me and taste the future."

Van had upon the order of his Lord been going about the valley with the guard as well..his eyes keen as he looks and checks in with the farmers and advises them to the temple for the time being and bring only their essentials ...his eyes tense as he gripped the reins of his stallion and looked to the other guards and gave a nod..all of them checking along the outskirts of the vallet and any caves of trenches that would serve as a landing point for the portal the babrarians may of used...eyes and soul strong as he went for hours upon hours without rest..gathering provisions and informing the people of Midvale as well to shut thei doors and lead to the temple if need be...some guards escorting the weak and newborn and elderly as his armor clinked while his movements...looking to the few guards left to him as they advise any caravans to turn back and also checking them as well...the hours would wage on as he shows no sign of fatigue but it was coming to him...he would look to the skyies as the flying mounting guard would patrol and tell him of anyone or anyong that was suspiscious as he would check out every rumor and bit of gossip...his life was there for the people of the valley....upon hearing about the barbaians approaching the keep to the north he swore and wanted to be there to defend it if things turned south....indeed rumor did spread fast and everything he heard troubled him as he made ready to head back to the portal if needed and back to the frozen north...his thoughts on his lords and ladies as well as his love who was in the heart of itall...as soon as he got the word when it came he would ride as fast as he could....but that word had not come yet and he would continue his guartd...taking rests when needed and minimal foodand water rationing as he dared not with his guards with him to go for resources and give the chance of invasion even that little sliver of happening

A supposedly pleasant first day as the newest Imperial Guard, just boning up on what was going on, was what she had planned. Actually that wasn't true.

What she -had- planned was skimming through the list of wanted criminals, sorting them into boffables and non-boffables and then tracking down whoever took her fancy. Well, it was a system at least, although certainly being male or ugly probably increased any criminal's chance of getting away with it if the empire depended entirely on the efforts of Rebecca....And so, with a list of the most wanted and a bottle of Elven Red she gets her self comfy in a nook away from any other bugger and settles down for a pleasant morning.

Well, that -had- been the plan, until she started reading further.Abductions from Valencia was what had caught her eye and it had been with something of a smirk as she pulled the report and settled into a chair with the aim of gloating in joyous schadenfreude over how things were going to pot now she wasn't running the place. And yet...one report had led to another and any joy in the morning had soon past. It seemed from what she was reading that war was coming. Or if not, someone was damned keen on having one. Whether it was the barbarians or the empire she wasn't entirely sure but....aye, war. You could smell it in the air if you sniffed hard enough. That little jingo'y taint in the air that led to otherwise sensible men leaving the dinner on the table, slapping on war paint, grabbing grandpa's sword of the wall, rubbing the rust of the blade and dashing off for Gods knows what.

Aye, knowing the empire well enough...it wouldn't take much to kick things off. A few more instances of "happenings"; a few too many strangers and then people will get twitchy and then...well flags would be waved, nobles would run around making promises, songs would be sung and...fuck. She could see it now and she was afraid.

Now don't get me wrong. Rebecca wasn't a coward by any means and had drawn her own blade more oft than not. But that was one to one where both sides knew the stakes and the only thing likely to get hurt around them was some crockery. This was different. Afraid not for herself but for how this war would go, for war she was sure it would be, and what it meant for the bystanders. Oh they'd win - whatever that meant. The empire was too big and resourceful not to win. But define winning. Try telling some poor sod of a farmer that we've won and hip hip hooray when his wife has been raped and he's had his legs cut off and what's left of his farm is a smouldering heap. Aye, a grand thing victory - if you're far enough away from it that is. "Bollocks" she announces to the empty room as her insightful summary of the situation. "Buggery bollocks"

Well, square root of sod all she could do about it. Not now. She wonders briefly where if anywhere Balard would pop her. Not Valencia that she knew. Sorg had damned near banned her from the province following their last meeting. No, she'd just have to see. Line up with the rest of them, follow the guidon and hope no bugger was playing "Garry Owen" on a flute when they rode out.....and then a noise that causes to rise from her seat. Hrm, she ponders as she looks out of the window, now who the deuce were those chaps?

The warlord was going over some files and he heard the door open and he was surprised to learn from the guardsmen that there were Barbarians outside waiting to meet him and he would stand up "Allow them in then and leave it all to me." he was going to give them respect for now and he would wait for them to enter his office and when they do the first thing Balard says is "How may i help you all today?" he was going to be polite and fair as it wasn't every day that ones you were looking out for walked right into the heart of the Imperial Guard and asked to see the commander. Balard offered them a seat to sit down and he himself would sit down as-well after awhile as he waited to learn why they are here.

Miyuka was not with Balard or the IG. She was Balard's secretary, no doubt, but only if she was called upon would she show. Today she was deep within Unigo, performing some simple Phoenix gem research. She had already been by IG HQ to read various reports, and only now as a spell backfires and nearly takes her head off, did it dawn on her about something. After removing the deadly enchant from the phoenix gem and covering the magical stone, she'd teleport to the headmaster's office so she could pen a note to L`aquera personally.

Dearest Firebrand...Lady of Fire, Hot head. Perhaps a simple Lady Aquera will suffice? I feel that it should. I'm sure you are well aware of the reports about these incidents of Barbarian brutes showing up in rather large groups. A simple thought just occurred to me in the middle my...experimentation here in Unigo. Where, exactly are they coming from in such droves? It's a LONG way from here and Virelith, are they using the empire's own portals to travel here? I only recall setting up the one and that should be under heavy guard by Stormwind's people, should it not? Is there some method they have of fast travel? I would very much like to know how they are managing this or if they are just using our portals...because if they are, I would like us to have a tighter grip on who exactly goes through if we are going to continuously have these incidents.

-Anita Eleanore Miyuka Althena Kitara Alanis Mezzoit Valentine, Archmage.

As usual her letter had nearly ever i dotted with a tiny heart, and the scent of strawberries accompanied the letter and the fae that went to deliver it, the girl obviously getting a very special form of payment from the adorable Noble.
