A report on Ray`el's Desk

Postby gwyneth{StWi} on Sun Mar 12, 2017 4:14 am

*gwyn finishes writing the report in the guest room in the castle in Thallis in which she spent the night, then pads to Master Ray`el's office, folding the pages in half once she's sure the ink is dry and setting them on His desk, writing His name on the outside to draw His attention and setting a small object from His desk on the edge to weight it down.*

Master Ray`el, as you requested, a report of the mission she took part in earlier in the week.

gwyn responded to a call to investigate a reported conflict at the Fort of Old Eskaria. On the day arranged, she met at the docks in Thallis with several others, namely:

Abby- Human - mercenary
Zully- merfolk- mage
Dragovar- Draksen- mage
Amara- catgirl
Erynelin sylvan elf- ranger?
Aurin sylvan elf
Amriel- moriel

We went by ship, south, for several ours, staying within sight of the coast, mostly. The trip itself was uneventful.

Coming up to the fort, we could see about a score of figures on the beach, dressed in odd cloaks of a fabric gwyn has not seen before, a glittery, glossy fabric that brought to mind insect eyes. One of these soldiers, armed with lances, noticed the ship and fired a warning shot across the bow.. a red beam of light that was more sound than fury. It was however, enough to scare off the coward of a captain, leaving the ship adrift. Shots came next from the tower, energy bolts, gwyn believes, down onto the soldiers below, and more soldiers emerged from the forest, with a Woman in the lead. Several of my shipmates went overboard and waded in to shore while gwyn and Zully secured the ship so it would actually be there to take us home again.

The Woman, who was dressed as a soldier and had purple eyes, talked to those that made it to shore, and, I discovered later, convinced them that we had been sent there to aid them. Meanwhile the 'healer' among the soldiers on the ground, bandaged a flesh wound and killed another of his own men rather than healing him, and threw the body into the water. Zully became angry, and yelled at the man about dumping the dead into the ocean, gwyn was angry for different reasons, which she's sure she does not need to explain.

As gwyn got to shore, the woman, Striia was her name, was speaking of what she hoped to accomplish. She claimed that those in the tower were theives, who had stolen a relic from her Lord, and that said relic was of a personal nature, with no power or real value. She seemed to be afraid of being punished for failure, and said she had a plan for taking the tower. Most of the party seemed amenable to this, and none were actually listening to gwyn's concerns that this wasn't what we'd been sent to do. So, gwyn yeilded to the will of the Free, but with caution.

She led us to a drain pipe, about 5 feet high and eight wide that lead into the hill towards the tower. There was a man inside, an injured enemy who was throwing energy bolts out towards us. Her plan was for us to go in there, take out this injured man, then go up a ladder into the tower and secure it from the inside while her men attacked from without. None of us were in any hurry to go into that death trap, but Striia kept pushing for us to hurry hurry, rush in and not plan. Finally Zully turned to mist and went inside while Abby used her tower sheild for protection and stormed him more directly. gwyn gave Miss Amara her leash, and followed, reluctantly. gwyn cannot be certain she did not miss any details that happened while inside that pipe, as she was not quite herself at the time.

There was a brief battle with the man at the end of the pipe, which he lost. He was wounded but alive when gwyn reached him, and Abby spoke of leaving him that way so we could get some information before we stormed the tower. Striia did not want to take the time for that, or at least that is what she claimed, and killed the man before gwyn could get to him to heal him enough to be useful. She whispered somethign to him first, but gwyn couldn't hear what was said, maybe someone else in the group did though. gwyn had a very strong feeling by this point that something was wrong with this whole scenario, but still, no One was listening to her.

Master Carthad arrived at this time, He'd taken His own boat when He missed meeting up with us. Zully went back out the drain to the water to see what He could scry about what was going on. The Woman Striia, was egging the group on, up into the well rising to the tower, but gwyn asked Master Carthad to see what information He could get from the dead man. He was gathering His magics when She interruped Him and convinced Him to head up into the tower instead. gwyn restrained herself from stabbing the Woman in the heart, in case she was actually an ally.

When Master Carthad opened the hatch into the tower, we could hear fighting. Zully returned and asked some questions about what we were actually looking for, He'd seen something about a girl, Striia said the girl was nothing, and we were wasting time. Most of us went up after Master Carthad to help Him in the battle, including gwyn. Abby came last as she couldn't fly up and had to climb a rope. Zully went ahead of gwyn but was gone from the room when she emerged. The fighting ended with a few injuries on our side, and everyone dead on theirs.

Just as the last of the enemy was falling,Zully came rushing down the stairs with a Woman behind Him. Striia was just emerging from the well at this point, and she took one look at the woman behind Zully, a woman clutching a book to her chest, and swore, dropping down into the darkness below. More of Striia's men were approaching and, while Zully took off down the well after the fleeing Striia, another battle began. Master Carthad followed down the well, leaving gwyn with orders to call if He was needed. Once more it ended with no fatalities on our side and all dead on theirs. Master Carthad had come back and dispatched the last of Them, One who was trying to kill gwyn. We didn't wait around for more of the enemy to arrive. Master Carthad tossed all the bodies down the well and we followed. This time, He took gwyn's leash, and, we loaded the bodies onto a floating disk at His request and, thankfully, got out of there.

Zully killed Striia, gwyn is not sure if Her body made it into Master Carthad's collection or not. We discovered the ship we'd arrived on in flames, and Master Carthad's men had moved His deeper out to sea, so we set out on foot for home.

Later in camp, there was some talk while gwyn made dinner. The woman Zully had rescued is named Eskaia, she's a mermaid. She said Striia, despite what she looked like was not an elf but a Sarenheit. From what she said, a Sarenheit is to a mermaid what a Spirette is to a Chirot; a twisted race begun by some corrupted individual. Eskaia claims to have come from another world, not of Belariath, she left her world, Firdas, was dying and she convinced some to flee here with her. One left behind twisted the Sarenheit then brought them with them to Belariath as his slaves. Apparently there has been battles with this evil one in the past. Unfortunately, that is all gwyn learned, because she was drawn off to set up the tent for Master Carthad. However, He did bring several bodies of the enemy with Him, she does not know if He thought to call back and question any of them before he.. did whatever He does with them.

gwyn will keep an ear out for any new information, and she'll see if she can find Zully Sir to speak with Him in more detail. she thinks it best if she does not approach Master Carthad about the dead, as He was most displeased with her suggestion to the grieving Eskaia that Her friends could be resurrected. As it seems to gwyn that this Lord Striia spoke of is unlikely to stop searching for Eskaia and this relic she carries, and as this seems to focus around the merfolk and the water and sea, she thought it information You should have. Whether it has any bearing on the current troubles in THallis she does not know, but it is quite a coincidence they started soon after we returned.

gwyn returns to Thallis port with the others, but instead of heading straight home, she stops in the Castle first, begging some food and drink from the cook, she heads up to her previously borrowed room, takes out paper and begins to write. Once she was done she'd pad to Master Ray`el's office and folds the report over, writing His name on the top, and once more secures it to the desk with some small object found thereon. then the girl walks down the hall to the balcony, spreads leather wings, and flies into the night.

The report reads as follows:

Master Ray'el,

Yesterday's mission to capture one of the spirits Eskaia suspects is causing the death and desolation of Your waters was a success. We managed to locate and capture one of three spirits thought responsible, a girl hopes that things will begin to improve in Thallis, though she knows there is more to do to set things completely to rights.

Others who took part in this mission:

Pentora -draksen-
Abby - Barbarian - merch
Adonai Ayres -high elf- bard
Amara- cat woman-
Ellyssa -torian- bard
Erynelin -sylvan - ranger
Wade - vulpine- airmage
Valara Moriel
Dragovar -draksen- firemage

We sailed northward to a small village, barely more than a group of shacks clinging to the seaside. Eskaia told us there are three spirits that need to be caught, "The Endless Yearning", "The Flawless Perfection" and "The Long Shadow". She has devised a wait to contain them once they are discovered and beaten to the point that they can be caught.

A boy was waiting on the docks, his father was the mayor, a Jack Habbot. Wade Sir decided to go running into town on His own, sword drawn.. and nearly got Himself attacked by the townsfolk who thought Him the evil one who'd been snatching away Their people, until Miss Ellyssa calmed Him and the townsfolk down with a song.

Once things were calmed down, we started moving amongst the townsfolk, discovering more about these abductions of Their people, there was little rhyme or reason to it, other than it tended to move through families, one would disappear, then another then another... then it would jump to a different one. the Mayor took Miss Abby with Him to fetch a trunk of His wife's things so we could look for clues, Hers being the most recent disappearance. Miss Ellyssa and Miss Pentora spoke of some kind of magic grid or trap in the ground that radiated out from the village and into the sea.

Miss Abby returned without the Mayor and started going through the trunk, She threw gwyn a diary to look through. Most of it was the woman bemoaning her marriage and her life.. until the last entry... "I have at last achieved the perfection I have always dreamed of. I sang for the town today, and brightened all their hearts, as they too wait to be perfected. I will better all their lives, for they will all know what it is to be their better selves. My husband, surely, needs perfecting first." About that time, Miss Ellyssa discovered that Miss Abby wasn't really Miss Abby, and gwyn showed the diary to Miss Eskaia, and spoke with Her in merfolk.. this was "the flawless perfection" spirit W/we were dealing with.

Amidst the sudden chaos, Miss Abby pushed Wade Sir back behind a house, and She disappeared, leaving Wade Sir, no longer Himself, reemerging alone. When questioned on Miss Abby's location, Wade Sir responded "she's perfect now" and He attacked Miss Erynelin, carrying her to the porch and trying to make Her look into His eyes. At which point, everyone attacked what still appeared to be Wade Sir and wasn't.

Eventually, He was beaten, with only minor damage to Miss Ellyssa and this girl and His face shattered into many little pieces of mirror. all of those taken started emerging from the ground, some still alive, some dead. Those from O/our party were alive, as was the mayor but His wife was not. gwyn moved through the victims and worked on healing where she could, comforting where she could not.. and discovering bits and pieces of stories. It seems while they were imprisoned, they were forced by magic to attempt to achieve perfection in whatever they lacked. Someone who had once wanted to be a soldier was forced to practice with the sword night and day, someone who wanted to dance was forced to do that etc. if they stopped trying to be 'better' they were punished, sometimes to the point of death.

Miss Eskaia gave Miss Abby a vial to use to capture the spirit in, the spirit kept trying to repair the mirror so others kept attacking it and cracking it again as She worked until all the pieces were sucked into the vial. Then and only then did that magical grid begin to disappear until it was completely broken.

Shortly thereafter, we sailed home. gwyn stopped to write this before she left Thallis port for her own home, she will return at Your convenience if You wish it, with any questions, or whatever You desire.

gwyn didn't travel to Thallis this time, having been poisoned in the last battle, her Master preferred her to return home right away. Instead she wrote the report from her sick bed as she recovered after finally being given the cure by Miss Thunder. she sent the letter by Faemail instead.

Master Ray`el

Another mission completed, two evil spirits down, one more to go. This time it was the Long Shadow. This one created anger and hatred in the populous of a small floating island in the ocean made of debris and parts of ships. We managed to prevail and it is currently sitting in one of Miss Eskaia's vials. Hopefully this will improve things more for You in the Port.

Others who took part in this mission:

Abby - Barbarian - merch
Amara- cat woman-
Dragovar -draksen- firemage
Ellyssa -torian- bard
Erynelin -sylvan - ranger

We were several hours away from the coast when we came upon the island made of bits of wood, parts of docks and pieces of ships. Parts of this structure were smoking as if fires had been set and extinguished recently. there was a small fight occurring on one edge of the docks facing us. gwyn suggested that everyone stay on the ship until she and Mistress Ellyssa had flown over and done some recon, however, upon making her way back to the ship, she discovered that everyone but Miss Eryn was off the ship and in the middle of a battle on the docks. gwyn had to step in to save Miss Amara from being killed, and then heal Her.

Miss Abby, Mistress Ellyssa and Miss Eryn went off to follow one of the Men who had escaped the battle while gwyn patched up Miss Amara and herself, and spoke with Her, Dragovar Sir and Miss Eskaia about the odd shadows she had been seeing. She was not the only one who had seen them, and through the stick figure shadow creature that was seen, W/we identified the spirit that was tormenting these people.

W/we hurried to join the rest of the group, and, while everyone else went inside this.. tavern like structure where the Others were, gwyn and Dragovar Sir stayed outside in case of ambush. Soon after O/our arrival a fight broke out inside, gwyn attempted to put the one who harmed her to sleep, because it was not their fault but the Long shadow spirit influencing them. Dragovar Sir went inside to break it up and to try to disable the shadow with light. gwyn did not see what happened inside, but from what she was able to glean on the ship on the way home, Miss Amara set one of the poor people within on fire, and that fire quickly spread. However, the shadow was beaten, and captured. Miss Ellyssa seemed most distraught on the way home, as did Miss Amara, though gwyn didn't have time to question them too thoroughly as she went into healing trance to recover from her own efforts.
