Legends of Belariath
Step By Step Dice Fighting
Alright, so you decided to fight, and decided to use dice, but you don't know what the heck is going on this guide will lead you from the beginning of the fight to the end. Step by step.
Step 1: Understand your character
First, do a /msg Desdaemona !stats Craven the Bot Desdaemona will report the stats of each registered character you entered the name in. And she will report the following info:
<Desdaemona> Character 'Craven' (level 6 Mage/Cleric) stats: Str 7 Int 15 Agi 9 Res 15 Stam 18 Life 10
In here, we will see the character stats. Those stats are used in calculation of attack value, defend value, and how long magical effects will last. A definition of what each of these stats mean can be found elsewhere.
Step 2: Understand the combat commands system
There are currently 8 bot commands used in a combat:
ATTACK TYPE | USES | COMMAND |
---|---|---|
Ranged Physical Attack: | STR INT | !ranphyatk |
Bow and Arrows, sling shot, throwing a mug, etc | ||
Close-in Physical Attack: | STR AGI | !clophyatk |
Sword, knife, kick, punch | ||
Ranged Magical Attack: | INT RES | !ranmagatk |
Casting a spell - energy bolt from long distance | ||
Close-in Magical Attack: | INT STR | !clomagatk |
Touch based spell at close range - like sleep | ||
Long Range Physical Defense: | AGI INT | !ranphydef |
Defends against Ranged Physical attacks | ||
Close-in Physical Defense: | AGI RES | !clophydef |
Defends against Close-in Physical attacks | ||
Long range Magical defense: | RES AGI | !ranmagdef |
Defends against Ranged Magical attacks | ||
Close-in Magical defense: | RES STR | !clomagdef |
Defends against Close-in Magical attacks |
Each attack and defense has a bot command associated with it, as well as two stats value. For example, we are looking at the Ranged physical attack. It will use 1d str + 1d int to determine the values of the attack. When you type "!ranphyatkš (without the quotations), the bot will display the following:
<Desdaemona> Craven (Craven) makes a ranged physical attack roll for (d7)1 + (d15)8 + 0 = 9
The bot will automatically pick out the right stats and do the necessary calculation for you. On this roll, Craven got an Attack value of 9.
Step 3: Understand the use of equipment with commands on physical attack:
Do a /msg Desdaemona !equip Craven. The bot, Desdaemona, will report the stats of each registered character you enter the name of. She will report the following info, for example:
<Desdaemona> Equipment list for Craven: whip, gambeson, kopis, robe of the arch magi
Each of those item either have an attack value, or a defend value. Let's take the item this guy has for example:
Name |
ATK |
Slots |
STR |
2hands |
Class |
Cost |
Description |
||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
kopis |
2 |
1 |
5 |
N |
A |
35.00 |
Bronze blade |
A pretty crappy weapon really, it has an ATK value of 2, as you can see, And it will takes 1 slot of your equipment slots just to own this item (initially you have 10 slots, increaseable when you level up). The users will at least have a strength of 5 to use this weapon, and it will use only one of your character's hands. Weapons that use two hands are not usable with a shield. It is usable by all class A classes and it will cost 35 Mhl to buy one.
If Craven were to use this sword to attack you, he would type !clophyatk 2 and the bot will report something like this:
<Desdaemona> Craven (Craven) makes a close physical attack roll for (d7)1 + (d9)4 + 2 = 7
He made a 7 on his overall attack value, now you defend it by typing something like this. Same rules with the defend equipment you have. In this case, Zarias enters !clophydef 25. and the bot will report something like this:
<Desdaemona> Zarias (Zarias) makes a close physical defense roll for (d60)43 + (d60)12 + 25 = 80
The success of attacks are calculated by subtracting the defend value from the attack value. In this case, it is 7 v 80; Craven didn't manage to make a successful attack to Zarias.
If the attack number was bigger than the defend number you would have made a successful attack and roll a new dice to see how much damage it did to the opponent's life stat.
Step 4: Understanding use of spells:
The magic pages will pretty much explain everything you need to know about the basic of how spells work.
Also, there is a list of spells, how to use them and their descriptions. You are required to check the description of any spell before casting it. Do not assume what it does by its name.
When using offensive spells in combat, the attacker generally does something like this: !ranmagatk 5
<Desdaemona> Craven (Craven) makes a ranged magical attack roll for (d15)4 + (d15)1 + 5 = 10
This means that Craven used a long range magical attack, and put 5 slots into it. Each slot will give you 1 additional value to your attack. For example, if you only use 1 slot, you would type: !ranmagatk 1.
Defending against the spells works in the same way, you would be typing something like this, !ranmagdef 6 (where 6 is the value of armor that will work against magical attacks) and this would be the response:
<Desdaemona> Lethtal-Nethalm (Lethtal Nethalm) makes a ranged magical defense roll for (d7)2 + (d22)8 + 6 = 16
In this case, the attack did not go through, and causes no damage. Remember that all spells unless specified (i.e., touch based), can be used with both long range and close range attacks.
Also remember that only armor specified to defend against magic will work. For example, the enchanted value of a magically enchanted armor would work on defense against magic. Only the enchanted numbers are in factor, the base (starting) values of the armor are not effective against magical attack.
Step 5: Beginning the fight!
First, everyone involved in the fight will have to roll a 50-sided dice, and add the character level on top of the result. You can do the rolling by typing this: !r 1D50 The bot should report something like the following.
<Desdaemona> Craven rolls for 1 dice at 50 sides per die: 13
In this case, Craven got a roll of 13 + 6 (his level) = 19. The higher one will go first in the fight. In the case of a draw, they roll again to decide which one of them goes first. After that, they simply takes turns.
And everyone, please keep track of your own life and stamina values. You need 2 stam for every close range attack or defense, and 1 stam for every long-range attack or defense. It will also cost 1 stam for each slot you use when casting a spell. For example, an Energy Bolt with 5 slots will cost you 5 stam to cast.
Whenever somebody's Life OR their Stam reaches or gets below zero, they are considered "Out of action" and lose the fight.
Step 6: Carries on the fight
Now, during your turn in combat, you have four possible choices:
- Make An offensive attack
- Casting a defensive spell
- A passive move such as evade
- Yielding
Remember, casting any spell is considered one action and the end of your turn. There is no such thing as a pre-battle spell, all spells, including healing, blessing, Magical armor, Physical armor, etc must be cast during combat and are considered your turn.
A passive move is one that you can use to regain your stam. In this case, roll the maximum stam of the character. For Craven who has 18 stamina, it would be a !r 1d18 The bot should report something like this:
<Desdaemona> Craven rolls for 1 dice at 18 sides per die: 4
So Craven recovers 4 of his stam. Remember to do this wisely since you are out of the fight once your stam drop to 0 or below.
Combat continues until one contender (or group) is unable to continue, yields, or both sides agree to a tied result.
