Legends of Belariath

Technical Help

Finding TLI

The Lonely Inn is an online fantasy role playing environment based on the world of Belariath. People meet there to play their characters, interacting with each other live.

There are a number of ways to get online and join the role play at The Lonely Inn. The recommended method is to get a copy of an IRC client that works with your operating system and follow the instructions to reach:

IRC Server: irc.sorcery.net
Primary Channels: #The_Lonely_Inn , #Lonely_Inn_OOC

Alternatively you can use a Web-IRC link such as the one provided by Sorcery.net but this is a very limited way to get online.

If you can get onto IRC and need help, join #Lonely_Inn_OOC and ask there. If you are unable to get that far, a post on the message board will usually bring all the assistance you need.

Connecting to IRC

Each operating system has it's own way of connecting to IRC. Below we have listed such information as we have available. For more detailed instructions or if your platform is not listed, you can visit the official IRC help pages where they have far more information available.

PC

Client software can be obtained quite easily for the PC from shareware libraries such as Download.com or Shareware.com. There are various ones available that will do the job. Generally the best regarded PC client for IRC is called mIRC and this can be obtained as shareware directly from their site. They also have comprehensive instructions on that website for getting onto IRC and finding a specific channel.

It is available from http://www.mirc.com and is fully featured shareware with no restrictions, so you can try it free. We do believe it is well worth paying for if you use it regularly after the trial period but it doesn't disable itself if you don't.

Mac

Mac users can download a very reliable shareware program, Ircle. It can be found here at their official website http://ircle.com

Linux

There are several options for connecting to an IRC server from a Linux-OS machine, two of the more popular being the complex and very powerful text-mode client BitchX, and the text and/or GUI-mode scriptable client XChat. If you've not used IRC before, I'd suggest XChat, it's easier to start out with. Both are available as packages for most major distributions, and XChat is also available as part of the GNOME desktop.

Web TV

We understand that users of Web TV can access IRC but as yet we have no specific instructions. We can only suggest you use these options if given a choice: Server - irc.sorcery.net Port - 9000 Channel - #The_Lonely_Inn. If anyone can provide better instructions we will be happy to include them here.

Amiga, Atari etc.

IRC software should be available from your usual shareware supplier but as yet we have no specific instructions. We can only suggest you use these options if given a choice: Server - irc.sorcery.net Port - 9000 Channel - #The_Lonely_Inn. If anyone can provide better instructions we will be happy to include them here.
