Legends of Belariath

Lei`Saran

First Grief

She moves silently through the darkness, slipping through the trees she makes her way up a hill not far from the entrance to what has become her home with the dark elf of house Tintoreda. She felt the need to be alone this night and she has ventured back up to the surface world she had been born to. You see she had just been told by Ichilander that Story was no more.

She was crouched near the edge of the practice field for hand to hand fighting, just observing for now after having had her turn at being tossed around to learn to fall the right way. That is where Ichilander found her and making his way to her side he again noted that she was alone while all the other students formed small groups. He shakes his head at this seeing that it is going to take longer then he had thought for her to become accepted by the others if they ever did. It was her strange behavior he assumed that had the others keeping their distance. Again a shake of his head is given as he pushes the thoughts away for later and comes to a stop at her side.

Lei looks up having known he was approaching but not looking away from the practice until he reached her. She frowns slightly as she looks up into his face not having seen such a somber look their sense she had met him the night everyone was getting ready to go save Story. She rises with a fluid motion her head tilting in a bird like movement as she waits for him to speak. “Come with me Lei, I have some news I must tell you.” Is all he says before he turns and heads away from the field. She follows looking a bit confused not knowing why he did not just tell her this news right then and needed to go someplace else to do so.

They move around a rock outcropping and the sounds of the practice field quickly fade to nothing. Ichilander comes to a stop and turns to look at Lei who still wears a puzzled look from his behavior. Ichilander pulls in a breath not sure how she will take this which is why he wanted to get her away from the others. “Lei…I have received some news from the surface. My little brother is no more.” He waits then for her reaction so he can help her deal with this if he can. He himself has not let the news sink in and will not until he has made sure she understands what he told her and was not going to freak out. He does not know how her kind deals with death or how hearing this in her new form will change her reaction.

Lei just stands their starring at him for some moments as this news sinks in and she pulls in a few slow breaths before finally speaking. “How?” Ichilander shakes his head a bit of his anger seeping out. “I do not know yet, nor do I know who.” Lei only nods to that and turns away, Ichilander takes a step toward her lifting a hand to rest on her shoulder though he says nothing more. Lei turns her head slightly to look at his hand and raises her own to place atop his. This surprizes him somewhat though she speaks before he has a chance to. “I hope died well and in battle.” Are the only words she speaks before she walks away from him not looking back nor speaking another word. Ichilander sighs at this but makes no move to follow her thinking it best to let her work this out for a bit on her own now that he feels she will not hurt anyone. He turns and heads away also to take care of some things before he can let himself to grieve for his lost brother.

She reaches the top of the hill with this replaying through her mind and she sinks into a crouch near a tree. Her hand comes up to touch the chain necklace that had been gifted to her from Story. She is not sure how to take this news, when she was clan his presence would have been missed in that a fighter and breeder was lost to them but they would go on little effected otherwise. Now though it is different, this body and the way is reacts to things was different. Even her emotions were different as she discovers now when she lifts a hand to her face and her fingers come away wet. She stares uncomprehendingly for a few moments at this until she realizes what it is and her eyes close as her head bows forward. The new emotions and feelings this dark elf has never known nor experienced nor been taught to control and hide flow from her then in the form of silent tears as she mourns the lose of the one who gave her a home and friendship.
