Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Bard X2
Class required: Bard
Playing Instrument required: YES

:MECHANICS: Those within 5 feet per five levels of the Bard will feel an adrenaline rush on hearing the music. After one full round of play, their strength will be temporarily boosted by 2 points per 5 levels of the Bard casting the spell, up to a maximum of +10 points. Glitter Dust:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class required: Bard X1:
Effect: blindness:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

With this spell song, a Bard calls forth a cloud of glimmering particles that surround and coat the victim.

:MECHANICS: The target's vision is impaired for the number of rounds that the Ranged Magic Defense failed by, plus the number of slots used when the spell song was cast. It also adds an ethereal sheen to the victim's body, making actions like stealth, pick-pocketing, etc. impossible. Whilst the blindness lasts the target will have a 30% reduction in their attack rolls. This does not stack with any other visual impairment, natural or spell induced. When in doubt, only the biggest penalty applies.

Harmony of Justice:
Level required: 20
Class required: Bard

Casting method: other
Defending method: other

Description: Class required: Bard X3:
Requirements: Poetic Justice X4:
Effect: Reflects damage:
Playing Instrument required: YES when originally cast, not for activation:

Similar to Poetic Justice, this more powerful spell song effects multiple friends at once.

:MECHANICS: This spell allows one additional person to be protected for every 3 slots used in its casting. The spell is weakened in the process though, only lasting 1 action per slot in the spell and the reflected damage is halved. Casting this spell costs 5 stamina points and may be cast only once per day.

::Example:: Moe the barbarian swings a weapon at Larry the Bard (who has Harmony of Justice on himself and a few friends in place). His blow successfully penetrates Larry.s defensive roll and the Harmony of Justice spell is triggered. Larry then rolls a close physical attack of 40. Moe rolls a defense of 35 and his attack is reflected back on himself! The 5 points damage are halved and rounded up, so Moe takes 3 points of damage.

Loathsome Screech:
Level required: 13
Class required: Bard

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class required: Bard X1:
Effect: Stun +/- deafness:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

Using the instrument of their choice, the Bard brings forth a terrible screeching sound that causes severe pain to the target.

This spell does no damage, but instead, on a successful hit, stuns the victim for 1 round per 3 slots used in the casting. If this first hit is successful, the caster rolls a second !ranmagatk. If this is also successful, the victim is deafened for a number of rounds equal to the slots used in the casting divided by three. This takes the form of a 25% penalty to all defensive rolls. It ends immediately if attacked in any form, physical or magical. It does not stack with any other hearing impairment, natural or spell induced. If in doubt, the biggest penalty applies.

Melody of Discord:
Level required: 25
Class required: Bard

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class required: Bard x3
Playing Instrument or singing required: YES
Requirements: Song of 1000 dances, Battle Song

The Bard.s music can sooth the soul of the angry beast, but if the Bard so chooses, the effect can be exactly the opposite! By use of this spell song, the Bard causes the effected listener(s) to engage anyone around them in unarmed combat. (No weapons or spell casting).

:MECHANICS:
The maximum number of individuals that could affected is determined by rolling a dice with the number of sides that the Bard has levels. Thus, at a minimum this will be a 1d25. At level 50 the Bard would roll 1d50, and so forth. All who hear the Melody of Discord must roll a !ranmagatk vs !ranmagdef. If they if they do not defend; they attack the closest available target. The fighting lasts for a number of rounds equal to 5 plus the number of slots placed in the spell (or till the combatants are unable to continue). At the termination of the spell, those affected can continue their fighting in any way that seems good to them, or of course, they could simply stop fighting. This spell costs 6 points of Stamina to cast

Please note that this spell song potentially affects all those in the channel who could reasonably be expected to hear it. To avoid interruption of ongoing scenes, OOC notification should be announced.

Special thanks to Magnus for the creation of this spell.

Pixie`s Strike:
Level required: 5

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Requirements: Bard X1
Effect: Physical Damage +/- Stunning:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

Even in magical attack, the Bards mischievous nature can sometimes be seen. This spell song calls forth the images of tiny, but angry pixies that immediately surround and attack the victim.

:MECHANICS: The effects of the spell happens in two parts. First of all, the victim suffers 1 point of damage for every two slots put into the casting of this spell. After this damage is applied, if the victim failed there defense roll by more than their level, they are stunned for 1 round per 2 slots of the spell used in the casting. Important OOC Note- If the victim is stunned, the effect is immediately broken if they are subject to any form of attack - magical or physical.

Poetic Justice:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Required: Bard X1:
Effect: Reflects damage:
Playing Instrument required: YES when originally cast, not for activation:

This is a defensive spell song whose purpose is to turn attacks aimed at the Bard back on the attacker! When cast this spell creates a glimmering aura of musical notes, which suddenly springs up around the caster and lasting for 2 actions per slot in the spell.

:MECHANICS: When the Bard is successfully attacked by either physical or magical means, a second attack roll is then made by the Bard and the attacker now must roll for defense! If this roll is successful, the damage or spell effect is turned back on the attacker. If not, the attack is simply nullified. In either case, the Poetic Justice spell is triggered and the musical .shield' fades after wards. Casting this spell costs 1 STA per slot used. This spell may only be used once per day, and only works for the casting Bard.

::Example:: Moe the mage throws a stun bolt at Larry the Bard who has Poetic Justice in place. If Moe's magical attack is successful (that is beats Larry's magical defense roll), Larry now rolls a ranged magical attack, and Moe rolls ranged magical defense. If Moe's defense fails, the stunning effect is tossed back on him! Obviously, if the initial attack was NOT successful, nothing happens: nobody gets hurt and the Poetic Justice spell is still in place.

Rime of the Ancient Mariner:
Level required: 14
Class required: Bard

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Required: Bard X1:
Effect: Physical damage:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

Weaving threads of music and magic, the Bard creates intricate lines of crystalline frost, sending them streaking towards the target. A creative spell caster can craft beautiful but deadly snow and ice creations that can cut through flesh and muscle alike!

:MECHANICS: Damage is dealt with a normal damage roll

Steal Their Breath Away:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: clomagatk
Defending method: clomagdef

Description: Class Required: Bard X1:
Effect: Stamina drain:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

With this powerful spell song, the Bard drains energy from the target and uses it for him/herself! Thin wisps of ethereal matter seem to leave the victim and flow into the spell caster.

:MECHANICS: How much stamina is drained depends on how much the spell penetrated the victim's defensive roll - up to a max of two STA points per Slot in the spell.
Example: Larry the Bard casts Steal Their Breath Away on Curly and penetrates Curly's magical defenses by 7. Larry has 5 slots in the spell, which allows him to siphon 7 of Curly's Stamina points. In the next round, Larry casts it again, this time penetrating by a total of 30. He absorbs 10 more of Curly's Stamina points (the max for his 5 slots). This spell is considered a Close Magical Attack as the Muse must be within Melee attack range to cast the spell-song.

Wailing Dissonance:
Level required: 2

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Requirements: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Effect: Physical damage:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

By playing sharp, angry notes on his/her instrument of choice, a Bard can cause actual harm to a potentially rowdy listener. Anyone within earshot of the Bard's playing is a viable target, provided that they are not deaf (either magically or naturally).

:MECHANICS: This spell deals damage as per normal damage rules. But can neither kill nor cause permanent or lasting wounds. Any target brought to zero or less life points is rendered woozy, stunned, and barely conscious. The damage to their LIFE total is real, but returns quickly, at a rate of one point of LIFE per three full actions.

Out of Battle Spells

Cast of One:

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Playing Instrument required: NO:

For the performing Bard or Entertainer, there is nothing worse than having the right script, the right music, the right atmosphere; and not enough cast members! By means of this spell, the Bard takes on the appearance and voice of as many characters in their script as they are skilled enough to assume! For every two of his/her own levels, the Bard may take on the guise of another character in the performance. This spell song will only change the Bard's physical appearance, clothing, and voice; it does not provide for scenery or music. It works on the casting Bard and/or any willing participant.

Dramatic Exit:
Level required: 5

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Required: Bard X2, Entertainer X2:
Effect: Safe exit:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

A particularly biting song can rub audience member(s)the wrong way. This spell song allows a Bard or Entertainer to escape those that would seek to nail his tongue and fingers to the wall rather than let him play again! While still playing, the Bard/Entertainer invokes the spell and with a dramatic effect of the Bard's choosing (smoke, flashes.), he/she is whisked to safety. This can be any close by place that is considered 'safe' (his/her room at the Inn, outside, into another room at a shop, etc.). This spell song is to be used to safely end a performance, not escape battle. If the Bard fights for even one round, his ability to utilize this spell is null until the battle is over and a new performance begins. This spell may only be used once every 24 hours.

Enchanted Evening:
Level required: 9

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard X2, Entertainer X2:
Effect: Enhanced Performance:
Playing Instrument required: NO:

This delightful spell song makes everything the Bard does five times better. That includes singing, dancing, and anything else non-hostile they are engaged in; including sex! Anyone casting Detect Magic will realize the Bard is using magic to enhance his/her work, but not in a malicious fashion. This spell costs five Stamina points to initially cast.

Encore:

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Effect: Multiply instrument played:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

By means of this spell, the Bard or Entertainer may create a shimmering, spectral copy of his or her instrument that plays the last song that the original played. For every three levels, the Bard may create one additional instrument. The ghostly instrument is completely independent of the Bard that cast it, and once in existence, it plays on its own until its song is done before winking out once more. There is no limit to the amount of these instruments the Bard may have manifest at one time, provided it does not go past their level limit. As the spectral instrument has no true substance, any attack upon it will cause it to splinter into fragments and dissipate.

Mask of Deception:
Level required: 2

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

Bards and Entertainers frequently go about in disguise. By means of this spell, the Bard hides his physical appearance under the visage of another. The song-weaver may appear as any of the given races of Belariath, but this is an illusion that affects sight only. The body lacks substance, so a Halfling with this spell, posing as a Troll, could very well go into a small hole. However, the illusion will seem fake as most of it disappears into the wall.

Melody of Mischief:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard X1:
Effect: non-sexual pleasure:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

A spell the Bard uses to bring out the best and the worst in any person about them! The effect of the spell song varies according to the nature of the target. Whatever that person likes as far as (non-sexual) pleasure goes, this is what they feel. The purpose of this spell song is simply to bring out the child in the audience and lighten a tense mood.

Muses` Flare:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class required: Bard X1:
Effect: Stage lighting:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

By means of this spell, the Bard calls forth small, softly glowing balls of light that drift out from either her/his hands or instrument, leaving in their wake a soft trail of sparkles. When the small globes hit the ground they bloom into any or all of a few colors (red, white, blue, purple, green, yellow) and act as spotlights on a stage where they lay. Can be used indoors or out as the lights are not particularly bright and they cause no harm or heat.

Photographic Memory:

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Effect: Enhanced memory:
Playing Instrument required: NO:

There's nothing worse for a performer than forgetting your lines or actions. This spell helps to allow a Bard to make sure that the show does indeed go on. The Bard or Entertainer must have the script in hand when casting this spell, and may target themselves or any willing person he/she wishes. When the spell is complete, the recipient will have perfect recollection of every written word, scene, and action of that particular script for the next 24 hours.

Psalm of Serenity:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class required: Bard X1:
Effect: Calming, enhanced Stamina recovery:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

This spell song invokes a relaxed feeling in those who listen, calming angry hearts and repressing hatred. Those who keep close to the Bard while he or she is weaving this spell, regenerate lost Stamina from various activities (Sex being the main one) at a rate of three points per action/round. If the Bard Close magical attack roll penetrates the defense of an angry target, then that person will calm down while the spell song is being played.

Purifying Rhythms:
Level required: 10

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class required: Bard x3, Entertainer x3 X1:
Effect: Restore natural senses:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

The Bard/Entertainer is able to channel their music or prose in such a way that it warms their listener's soul and mends one or more of their five natural senses: Hearing, Sight, Taste, Touch or Smell. For every three levels above 10th, the Bard/Entertainer is able to heal one additional sense or affect one additional person. For example, at 10th level, the Bard can heal one sense in one person. At 14th level, they may heal two senses in one person, or one sense in two people. The spell cannot repair lost sensory organs; it just works to cancel out a spell that is in place. The spell requires 5 STA to cast, and if it is used in combat, the Muse may do nothing but play his or her instrument, losing an entire round of action.

Rhyming Couplets:
Level required: 4

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Effect: Rhyming speech:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

It is well known that Bards and Entertainers alike have a mischievous streak in them. By means of this spell, the Bard is able to modify the victim's way of speaking into a more poetic and possibly melodic way of talking. The range of the spell is fifteen feet, and the Bard or Entertainer makes a long ranged magical attack that causes no damage regardless of how much it penetrates the victim's defenses. If successful, the spell causes the recipient to speak in rhyming couplets for one full scene, or a number of actions equal to the caster's level, whichever is greater. A rhyming couplet are two lines in which the last two words rhyme, for example: "I'm going to kill you, you goofy Bard! To lop off your head for all to regard!" and when dealing with folk they deem uncouth, there is nothing they find more amusing than.

Siren`s Lullaby:
Level required: 3

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Effect: Sleep:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

By means of this spell song, the song-weaver's voice becomes so soothingly enthralling that their intended target falls asleep. The victim stays asleep until awakened by anything that normally would rouse them, or for the number of rounds that the Bards magical attack roll penetrated their defense roll.

Song Of 1000 Dances:
Level required: 8

Casting method: other
Defending method: other

Description: Class Requirement: Bard X2, Entertainer X2:
Effect: Compelled dancing:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

When this spell song is invoked, all those who can hear it must roll a 1d100 (!r 1d100), and if they roll less than the Bards Agility, they are compelled to begin dancing! They are able to act normally otherwise, (fighting, drinking, plotting) but they will do it all to the beat of the music! The Bard must declare (in the channel) they are casting the spell before doing so. It.s effects lasts for one scene, and two scenes must pass before it can be cast again. This spell costs five Stamina points to cast.
Please note that this spell song potentially effects all those in the channel who could reasonably be expected to hear it. To avoid interruption of ongoing scenes, OOC consent should be obtained before casting it.

Song of the Sirens:
Level required: 10
Class required: Bard

Casting method: other
Defending method: other

Description: Class required: Bard X1:
Effect: Sexual thoughts:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

One of the most potent skills of the Bard is to determine the deepest needs and desires of others, and use this knowledge to manipulate them! By way of this spell, sexual thoughts are delved up from the victim's mind, modified by the will of the Bard, and brought to the victim's conscious awareness! Most become aroused or flustered. For every level over 10, the Bard becomes more and more skilled at directing the series of thoughts and images until at 20th level, he/she can control the details of the events within the thought! The target is unaware of the spell singer's effects, completely believing the thoughts and images are their own. Note: no spell can ever *force* another character to have any particular thought (sexual or otherwise) without OOC consent.

Spectral Symphony:
Level required: 3

Casting method: other
Defending method: none

Description: Class Requirement: Bard, Entertainer X1:
Effect: additional musicians:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

There are times when it is simply not enough to do a 'one-man-show'. By means of this spell song, the Bard or Entertainer is able to call into being an insubstantial spirit of musical ability that manifests and plays with the Bard. The Bard can summon one such 'being' per three of his own levels, and each one comes with an instrument of his own choosing; each completely independent and able to play on its own. With the Bard/Entertainer leading the tune, he/she can build quite a throng to deliver his/her own concert! The spirits' music abilities are roughly equivalent to that of the Bard who calls them. However, if the Bard stops playing and goes to do something else, the spirits will lose interest in being present and dissipate, taking their music with them.

Anywhere Spells

Charismatic Flare:

Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef

Description: Class Requirement: X1 Bard, Entertainer
Effect: blindness:
Playing Instrument required: YES:

By way of this spell song, the Bard creates a bright flare of musical energy that effects the vision of a single target.

:MECHANICS: It lasts for the number of rounds the target had failed their Ranged Magical Defense roll, or for the number of slots the Bard or Entertainer has in this spell-song, whichever is less. Example: Larry the Bard uses five slots of Charismatic Flare on Moe, who fails his defensive roll by 11. Moe is now visually impaired for 5 rounds. Whilst the blindness remains the target will have a 30% reduction in their attack rolls. This does not stack with any other visual impairment, natural or spell induced. When in doubt, only the biggest penalty applies.
