Legends of Belariath

Fae

"At a time that is not a time,
in a place that is not a place,
on a day that is not a day..."

The Faery Realm, remains distant from Belariath, although it actually exsist within. In this mundane time, there are times and places where the two worlds meet, where a traveler may wander into this Hidden Place. Between places are entrances into this Magical Realm: between Land and Sea, between Day and Night, between One Place and the Next. This is why gateways and doorways are a prime ways into the Otherworld. Standing within a doorway, one is neither in one place or the next, neither outside nor indoors. It allows us a passageway into the inbetween world of The Faeries.. The Land of The Faeries takes on many guises. It is the Enchanted Forests. It is the Shadow World. It is the reaches of Heaven and the depths of Hell. Never-never Land. The Dream World. The places where Faeries dance in timeless revelry.

The ranger slowly moved through the woods looking for the sounds of girlish laughter that had awaken him from a dead sleep. His steps were careful upon the leaf littered ground as he moved to the orangish glow of a small controlled blaze. What would he find when he got there? More then likely some noble ladies who had decided to spend the night in the spooky woods to impress some young strapping warriors with their bravery.

A moan birthed of lustful delights graces his ears making his steps hasten. Mayhaps this was something he could use to relive some stress with. After all who didn’t like a woman upon her back near the warmth a fire? Slowly a smirk would implant itself upon his face as he stepped in to the clearing. A smirk quickly removed as his draw dropped with shock.

Oh indeed it was ladies as he hoped. However, these small women had shimmering iridescent wings sprouting from their narrow backs. Curves that were almost too perfect to believe shaped their slight frames. Hair pooled from their heads gleaming in the light promising it would be soft to the touch. Skin held the faintest of shimmer as if it were misted with water cried out for him to see if it was truly as soft as it looked. Small and delicate, every mans dream only a few steps from his needful grasp. Fairies, the creatures of innocent laughter and lust.

As he watched these two winged creatures continued in their carnal delights not knowing his eyes feasted upon them The ranger stepped forward forgetting his training as lust overtook him breaking a twig in the process. Startled the girls split apart offering him fleeting glances of innocent eyes set in faces that were neither young nor old.

He gave chase hoping to catch but one of them to fulfill the need aching in his loins. The winged ones were quick however as they darted through the trees. A shimmering glow of light surrounded their retreating frames as they jumped up into the star dipped sky changing into nothing more then shimmering balls of light. Up and away they flew giggling once more.

A cry of anguish passed the rangers lips as he hung his head in defeat. “Damnable fairies!” He cursed to the night air vowing to himself that one night he would indeed catch one and see if they indeed tasted as wonderful as they looked.

Appearance

The Fae are probably the most unique race gracing Belariath’s lands. Not only for their lack of social complexities, but also for the way they hold themselves in the lands of the taller races. Fairies, who are always female, come from the land of erotic dreams and spill over more often than not upon Belariath by sheer accident. Not to say they do not enjoy their stay, but getting them to conform to the ways of it is often more work then it seems. One could say it is part of their charm.

There are four types of fairies, all of which are female, that are birthed from the four main elements of the earth. Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each clan, as they call them, has it’s own particular look and advantages. But all fairies are between 9inches and 18 inches in their smaller forms, and between 4’3 and 4’10 in their bigger forms. Wings can look like a butterflies or dragonflies, never bird or lizard like. It is rumored that the shimmering substance that coats their wings can bring a heightened state of arousal to any when it is tasted. There are NO male fairies.

A big draw back to their wings is that while they get to keep them in their bigger form, unlike Pixies and Nixies, they are useless for anything other then decoration. They retain movement, but the magic’s that make them work for flight is rendered useless. The wings are also very sensitive to touch, almost as if the sensations are amplified slightly. Fae wings offer no protection of any kind and like a butterflies are very fragile.

The shifting of one size to another is not the dramatic effect, as one would see a Pixie do. Given these winged females are very skittish by nature, the shift from one size to another is usually only a soft glow of light about their bodies. This ‘low key’ change helps them attempt to avoid ones who would abuse them.

The Fae are tiny things in a very large world, more than a little out of place in Nanthalion. Whether by magic, or maybe the chaotic tendencies of their Goddess, they can adapt themselves to the world without losing their unique characteristics. In their smaller forms they are harmless, their magic’s reduced to light shows in all respects, unable to harm or help anyone. They also are limited in their sexual endeavors to solely other faeries, pixies and nixies, unable to copulate with the larger races. But, as said before, they can adapt to the world, growing larger to better fit into it. The transformation requires room to grow though, any sort of object impeding that growth stopping the process entirely. Once in their larger forms their magic’s are capable of being used to help and hinder: their bodies capable of sexual actions with all races, even though in comparison they are still much shorter than most races. Sadly when in their larger form their wings become nothing more than ornamentation, losing their ability to fly. Just as their Goddess, Her, Fae are non violent and while capable of using spells, will go out of their way to keep from killing should combat ever be initiated upon them. A fae can fight in self defense, but to initiate combat and try to bring actual harm or death to another person goes beyond a Fae's mindset and capability.

Fairies when they actually bother to clothe themselves are never seen in drab or depressive colors. They are always in bright colors and light materials to reflect the joy in their hearts. This in and of itself has it’s own problems given how the taller races oh do so love to…. Have fun…. With the girls.

Advantages

Elementally Aligned:
Each Fae is tied to a specific element through the Tribe they are born into. This allows them to absorb a portion of that same element if attacked by a like-element. If the element based spell has less then five slots, the fae of like-element takes no damage and is not affected. If the elemental spell is over five slots, the fae of like-element takes only half damage or half the effect. Many fae choose to make their homes close to their born element, Bisque will often find comfort in the eaves of a blazing hearth, or Corlet will frolic in the frothy ocean waves or turbulent rivers. Many a flower picking Maid has happened upon a sleeping Mauna, curled up in the petals of their favorite flower or plant.

OOC note: When the Fae takes an advanced class of like element, the class advantage and racial advantage does not stack. The Fae will continue to be uneffected by same-element attacks five slots or lower, and takes half damage from any spell that has six or more slots in it. In addition, the Fae can ONLY choose the advanced elemental class that matches their own natural element. Example, Mauna would choose Earth Mage ONLY, Flinae would choose Air Mage ONLY, Bisque would choose Fire Mage ONLY, and Corlet would choose Water Mage ONLY.

Elemental Submersion:
Fae do occasionally get injured, but being so strongly tied to their element makes it possible for them to recover from all but lethal injuries by submersing themselves inside their respective elements. An example would be Bisque crawling into a fire or hearth, a Mauna burying themselves, a Flinae would have to rest atop a very large tree or cliff to expose themselves to the open air and a Corlet would need to go underwater. While within their elements, injuries would begin to heal at 10% of their life points a day spent recouping, minor scrapes and bruises healing overnight while more serious injuries might take days. This does not stave the life threatening damage of a mortal wound due to the time needed, or regenerate lost limbs or wings that would need a more powerful healer to tend to.

Disadvantages

Elementally Aligned:
Just as each Fae is tied to an element and can reduce the amount of damage it takes from same-element spells; those spells of opposing nature will harm the Fae more than any normal attack could. If attacked by an element of opposite nature, the Fae will automatically take x2 damage from the elemental spell. For example, Mauna Fae would receive x2 damage from any Air sphere attack. This would prompt even the flightiest of Fae to err on the side of caution when coming into contact with something of opposing nature.

OOC note: When the Fae takes an advanced magical class of its same element, the x2 damage does not stack to make x4. It continues to be only x2 damage from opposing element.

Room to Grow:
Fae have a marvelous coping mechanism when in the mortal world, to go from small to large, and back again, the ability to fly; however, the Fae are restricted even with these generous gifts. Fae require room to change their size, so if a foolish Fae happens to get caught within a glass jar or cage, the ability to shift and flee is impossible until they can get free. Sex is impossible when they are small, unless with a race of same statue, such as nixies, other fae or pixies. Also, though quite fast in their smaller frames, once in a larger state those beautiful wings become useless, too weak to carry this new heavier weight, and thus is flight restricted as well.
