Special Items

Above the normal weapons, armor and jewelry to be found in the world, there are other items which have special powers. No one is certain where these items originated, though they are widely believed to be artifacts created by the more powerful sorcerors of the first empire. Certainly no known mage of today can replicate them or create new ones.

Some of these items are held in his vaults by Stormbringer, others come to light as the result of quests into far off lands. Below you will find the categories of special items and the requirements for owning one.

  • Named Items
Named items are no more than standard items such as weapons or armor to which the owner has become attached. Because of this, they have named their item and created some history for it. So, for example, you own a sword you have carried a long time; you made a fanciful description of the weapon, got it enchanted up and you fondly refer to it as Pigsticker. Now you may wish to have it added to this list. To do that you would go to the message board, find the NI forum and make a post giving the name, description and history of the item. On approval, the sword will be listed here for posterity.
  • Minor Items of Power
Amongst the special items, these are the most common and the least powerful, normally having a single effect which enhances roleplay. MIoP's are not available for purchase, they do not require the holder to have any predetermined level, or stat value and they can never be used in combat. They may be handed out by nobles as a form of recognition for services to the game, won in tournaments, or gained in quests.
  • Items of Power
Lowest amongst the truly wondrous items, IoP's may have a limited effect in combat but are usually more tailored towards roleplay. Whilst an occasional IoP may be handed out for exceptional services to the game or as the result of a particularly difficult quest, they are earned through the conception and running of an event or Quest that others can participate in. A person may hold up to a maximum of 5 IoP's. An IoP may never be sold, given, stolen by or traded to another character. On the permanent death of the holder, it reverts to the pool held by the empire from where it may be re-issued or destroyed. These items are created by the IoP team working together with the player; to find out more visit the page on Character Development and the IoP forum on the board.
  • Relics
Remnants of the first empire, relics are powerful items which can no longer be duplicated or equalled by current magical abilities. They tend to have a number of effects, all of which fit a common theme, the item itself being drawn towards it's new owner. A person may hold up to 3 Relics, and may only qualify when they have run a significant event or storyline, the qualification of which is determined by Admin. A relic may never be sold, given, stolen by or traded to another character. On the permanent death of the holder, it reverts to the pool held by the empire from where it may be re-issued or destroyed. These items are created by the Relics team working together with the player; to find out more visit the page on Character Development and the Relics forum on the board.
  • Legendary Items
Marvellous antiquities, their creation lost in the mists of time, legendary items give testament to a previous civilisation of unequalled power. No one knows for sure where they came from or how Stormbringer gained them, though there may be a clue there as to his own origins. LI's tend to have a number of effects which demonstrate an affinity between the item and it's new owner, though carrying such an item any length of time may also change that person for the better or the worse. Only a single LI is ever granted per character and that only when the character reaches level 60. An LI may never be sold, given, stolen by or traded to another character. On the permanent death of the holder, it reverts to the pool held by the empire from where it may be re-issued or destroyed. These items are created by the Relics team working together with the player; to find out more visit the page on Character Development and the Relics forum on the board.
  • Artifacts
Once a character holds more than one special item of IoP rank and above, those items may occasionally be joined together into a single item known as an artifact, which carries the combined powers of the items from which it was created. An artifact may be created by merging any combination of IoP, Relic and LI, but no more than one of each, for a combined item with a common theme. These items are created by the Relics team working together with the player and require specific approval of the High Council. To find out more visit the Relics forum on the board.
  • Wonders
Almost unimaginable in power and rarity, wonders are just that - wonderful items that are believed to have been created by the gods themselves and handed down to their favored servants. Only a single wonder is ever granted per character and that gift is never automatic. The item can only be issued by specific instruction from the Emperor to a character above level 80. Where Stormbringer acquires such items is never explained though they may certainly have some bearing on his ability to have created a notable empire in such a short time. A wonder may never be sold, given, stolen by or traded to another character. On the permanent death of the holder, it reverts to the pool held by the empire from where it may be re-issued or destroyed.
