I've written this thread because, since I've returned, I've been asked by a few people: How did you get DaeLaren to become a Tu`Turadil?
I'm sure that those of you who are reading this hoping for a step by step on how to get your slave nominated for, then hopefully honored with, the title of Tu`Turadil.. will be disappointed.
Why?
Because THERE IS NO STEP BY STEP GUIDELINE that will get your character the honor. There is no TO DO list that states: "If you do this, and this, and this, your character WILL become a Tu`Turadil!"
But, if you REALLY want to know what I did to get DaeLaren nominated.. then, honored.. I'll tell you:
NOTHING.
That's right.. nothing. I did not actively go IC in an attempt to get DaeLaren noticed. In fact, I had other characters that I played who were slaves, as well. I played all of my characters like I've always played them.
Granted, there was a dynamic between her and her owner at the time she was nominated, Infernis. Their Master/slave relationship was such that DaeLaren wanted to do all that she could to please him. She knew that she was valued, appreciated, and cared for. That made her all the more willing to be the best slave she could be for HIM. -I- as the -player- had no ulterior motive for playing her that way. I simply let my character be HERSELF.
And, THAT, right there.. is my best advice. Let your character be herself/himself. Because I'll tell you what it's NOT about:
It's NOT about how large, or small, your posts are.
It's NOT about how many hours you can spend IC at any given time.
It's NOT about how "good" your slave can be all the time.
It's NOT even about how wonderful the relationship is between Master/Mistress and slave.
Because you can have a ROTTEN, IC'ly speaking, Master/Mistress who abuses, torments, neglects, and generally mistreats their property (and, we know how some love it that way.. don't lie!) on a regular basis.. but, it IS about how the slave carries herself/himself that matters.
The bottom line is: You shouldn't make your character something she's/he's NOT.. -just- so you can try to make sure they're on their way to becoming a Tu`Turadil.
What it really IS all about, in my opinion, is:
Having FUN playing your character.
Having fun WITH the people who play with your character.
Letting your character be HERSELF/HIMSELF as they live life in Belariath.
Enjoying the IC relationship between your character and their Master/Mistress, no matter what that relationship is in terms of "good" or "bad."
If you do THOSE things... then becoming a Tu`Turadil?... is just icing on the cake for playing a game that you truly enjoy, with characters that you help bring to life, in a place that is wonderful to play in.
So...
There it is, folks, my take on "HOW TO BECOME A TU`TURADIL."
