Research Ideas:

Currently role playing matwyn as trying to Brew an Enlargement potion, The effect being purly cosmetic and dismissed if damage is delt, perhaps making it ineffective on the larger races such as trolls, ogres, and minotaurs. would at max double a chars height, does not effect clothing piercings or armor, so a larger set of clothing would be needed. Concept behind this mainly being allowing smaller races a chance to molest larger ones on there own Level.

Second Project, if the Enlargement potion was to be Scrapped would be a Shaman spell

Spirit Hand
An Advanced version of spirt weapon dealing bludgeoning damage instead of stamina drain, though the hand available only the round of casting, It mimicking the shamans hand movements, to flick, poke or squeeze, perhaps even push for a damage roll. The hand appears ghostly and translucent, enlarged to the size of the shaman, due to the spell being spirtual in nature would only effect living targets possessing a spirit, passing harmlessly thru inanimate objects.

Current Idea:

In response to Kerianna's idea about small constructs being available at the SS for cleaning, maybe we simplify it to an enchant on cleaning items. A broom that constantly sweeps, a feather duster that's always dusting, or garden shears that constantly prune. Basically an "ever-cleaning" soft enchant for household items.

Research Idea, Arcane Bomb spell

my idea was an Arcane bomb (Arcana sphere or maybe just a special thing for military use only. Whatever works best). Basically it's a two turn cast spell that goes off on the second turn in a large radius. However, if interrupted while compacting the arcane energies used to make it, the spell will go off prematurely and cause damage to caster and foe alike.

rescearch ideas.

Golems and power crystals

These are some research ideas I have been having on what Orik could be looking into. The first being power crystals which I well go into first then into golems.

Power crystals- Crystals that have been filled with magical energy, and enchanted to seal in the power within them. There are two types of power crystals that could be made like this. The first being stable, while the other is unstable or over charged. Both only used in quests or war events.

Stable: the stable once act more like batteries for the mages that are going to use them. They would be able to tap into the crystal and pull the magic out of them to cast a spell rather then using their own power right away. This would be useful in war event so that the casters can hold of using their own power so they can cast larger or more powerful spells with out tiring them out right away.. However the spells are not as powerful.

Unstable- The unstable once are can be used like grenades throwing them at the enemies so that they blow up. Depending on the kind of magic put into the crystals would determent what they would do once they blow. Again this is more of a war or quest used item only for story line usage. They can also only be giving out to the imperial guards or nobles as well.

Golems- The golems that are going to be looked into is related to the power crystals. Using the crystals as a kind of power sores for the golems when creating them. This would make more then just one type of golem and can be hidden much easier as well. They can’t be made right at the spot like the clay golems normally made through the earth mages spells, but making it so they are more custom made before hand. There are three types of golems like this…

Clay Golems- much like the golems made through the earth mages spell they share the same kind of weakness as well. They are slow weak against water magic as if they get to wet they become blobs that can’t really move or do anything

Stone golems- These are stronger then the clay golems and not weak against water magic like their lesser brothers. These golems are made with stone suck as marble, granite, or jade for example. One of their big advantages is that they can be sculpted to look like normal statues allowing them to hide and ambush intruders that might be attacking a nobles house or the towers. They aren’t very fast, but they are powerful able to lift heavy objects to hurl them at enemies or slamming them with pillars. They are resistant to blade and piercing attacks do were they take less damage. How ever they are very weak against bashing weapons or pickaxes which deliver more damage onto them… They are also resisted to fire magic but weak against both earth and air magic still.

Metal golems- these are the most powerful of the three kinds of golems. They can be made with any kind of metal found. Depending on the metal used to make them depends on how powerful they are. Mithril is normally the best metal to use making them a little faster then one made with steal and a bit more resisted to magic spells. However these golems are very weak against both fire spells and lightning spells. Slashing, and piercing weapons also are not very effective against them while bashing is still a better choice to use against them.

These are mostly for quests, events, or for nobles maybe warlords as well.

could we harness the power of an elemental/ or element to like..." Trap" into these crystals? and would each element be used for specific goloms?

Just my couple of coppers

Those are some good questions. I think that they could be used for traps. As for the element be used for spacific golems that is a intresting idea as well. I didn't think about that.

at this point in time there will be no such research for the crystals or the golems. we have the phoenix gems for one thing. Golems could be interesting, perhaps something used as a defense mechanism. If research is started on them it'll be up in the Unigo forum.

Research Idea:
My Idea is to have two casters of the same Element or who has the same spell say Lightning Bolt the idea would be that if someone casts energy bolt and someone else casts energy bolt the two spells combine in to one either making a Beam or a scatter shot that needs both their focus to cast.

*dusts off thread*
Rilkhea, a recent hire to tower Umbara, is interested in researching a few things.
I want to emphasize that the mechanics of these things are negotiable in their entirely, though I would (ideally) like to keep to the general idea.

Glacial Spike:
Level required: ??
Class required: Water Mage
Spell prerequisites: Umbara Key
Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef
Description: Water Mage X?
General Idea:
A single target ranged magical attack. Should have Attack bonus and Damage bonus. Fluff and image wise, the Cryomancer forms a long, sharp spike of ice and accelerates it with alarming force at a target hopefully impaling them.
Mechanics Summary:
Bonus to attack equal to +1 per slot, bonus to damage equal to +1 per 3-5 slots. Perhaps affected by armor, perhaps an increased STA drain, perhaps both.
Why?
First of all, it is a neat spell narrative. Also, currently Umbara Cryomancers have a bit of a dearth of damaging single-target ranged attack spells in the sphere. This spell intended to give them another option and a different narration.

Ice Armor:
Level required: ??
Class required: Water Mage
Spell prerequisites: Umbara Key
Casting method: clomagatk
Defending method: n/a
Description: Water Mage X?
General Idea:
The cryomancer creates an icy suit of armor on their (willing) target. This armor should provide an interesting defensive mechanic not already used in-sphere.
Mechanics Summary:
This one is more nebulous, but basically, the initial thought is to create temporary LFE points to absorb damage incoming first. It should generate smaller LFE pools (I would be thinking approximately 2-4 LFE per time Water Mage is selected) than the shaman spells Spirit Armor and Spirit Barrier, but apply to any damage source.
Why?
It is a neat image, and I like the idea of ice acting as a degrading barrier.

Shard Storm:
Level required: 30
Class required: Water Mage
Spell prerequisites: Umbara Key
Casting method: clomagatk
Defending method: n/a
Description: Water Mage X5
General Idea:
The cryomancer designates an area and razored shards of ice fall from the sky, pelting all within.
Mechanics Summary:
A ranged AoE for cryomancers. 2 rounds to cast, interrupt-able, increased damage similar to Glacial Spike, with disadvantages similar to glacial spike.
Why?
If Glacial Spike is okayed, this would be the next logical evolution of the spell. I really like the image, and currently both water mage AoE's are centered around the water mage. Worse yet, the Umbara version does not differentiate between friend and foe, making them more of a liability than most others using their AoE spell.

*Please note: All opinions expressed in this post are not intended as criticism of any sort. Instead, they are being expressed as an opinion as to why an offered spell might be desirable. If they come across as critical, please accept my unqualified apologies.
