*dusts off thread*
Rilkhea, a recent hire to tower Umbara, is interested in researching a few things.
I want to emphasize that the mechanics of these things are negotiable in their entirely, though I would (ideally) like to keep to the general idea.
Glacial Spike:
Level required: ??
Class required: Water Mage
Spell prerequisites: Umbara Key
Casting method: ranmagatk
Defending method: ranmagdef
Description: Water Mage X?
General Idea:
A single target ranged magical attack. Should have Attack bonus and Damage bonus. Fluff and image wise, the Cryomancer forms a long, sharp spike of ice and accelerates it with alarming force at a target hopefully impaling them.
Mechanics Summary:
Bonus to attack equal to +1 per slot, bonus to damage equal to +1 per 3-5 slots. Perhaps affected by armor, perhaps an increased STA drain, perhaps both.
Why?
First of all, it is a neat spell narrative. Also, currently Umbara Cryomancers have a bit of a dearth of damaging single-target ranged attack spells in the sphere. This spell intended to give them another option and a different narration.
Ice Armor:
Level required: ??
Class required: Water Mage
Spell prerequisites: Umbara Key
Casting method: clomagatk
Defending method: n/a
Description: Water Mage X?
General Idea:
The cryomancer creates an icy suit of armor on their (willing) target. This armor should provide an interesting defensive mechanic not already used in-sphere.
Mechanics Summary:
This one is more nebulous, but basically, the initial thought is to create temporary LFE points to absorb damage incoming first. It should generate smaller LFE pools (I would be thinking approximately 2-4 LFE per time Water Mage is selected) than the shaman spells Spirit Armor and Spirit Barrier, but apply to any damage source.
Why?
It is a neat image, and I like the idea of ice acting as a degrading barrier.
Shard Storm:
Level required: 30
Class required: Water Mage
Spell prerequisites: Umbara Key
Casting method: clomagatk
Defending method: n/a
Description: Water Mage X5
General Idea:
The cryomancer designates an area and razored shards of ice fall from the sky, pelting all within.
Mechanics Summary:
A ranged AoE for cryomancers. 2 rounds to cast, interrupt-able, increased damage similar to Glacial Spike, with disadvantages similar to glacial spike.
Why?
If Glacial Spike is okayed, this would be the next logical evolution of the spell. I really like the image, and currently both water mage AoE's are centered around the water mage. Worse yet, the Umbara version does not differentiate between friend and foe, making them more of a liability than most others using their AoE spell.
