Suggestion - Common and/or Nature Sphere spell: Seeker

Arcana and/or Nature Sphere Spell: Seeker

Casting Method: Clomagatk
Defending Method: Clomagdef

Description: All that wanders are not always lost, but sometimes they like to hide. With a touch, the caster may mark their intended target for 10 minutes + a modifier based on how many slots are used. This creates a glowing trail of magic that only the caster can see. If the target is made aware of their trail through Detect Magic or other means, they may use the Erase spell to remove it, so long as they are higher level than the caster of Seeker.

Base Duration: 11 Minutes (10+1 slot)
Slots 1-5: +1 minute each slot
Slots 6-10: +2 minutes each slot
Slots: 11-15: +3 minutes per slot

At fifteen slots, it adds an additional 30 minutes of Seeker, for a total of 40 minutes.

by the description sounds like an arcane spell. OOB spells are one slot spells.

You're likely correct! I'll make an edit.

Is there a minimum level requirement for this spell?

I like how even at the maximum number of slots, the spell duration can't be abused too terribly badly.

Looking at the spell 'Wizard Mark', which I used as the basis because it's a somewhat modified version of the spell, I'd say no, no level limit. The caveat is that if the low level wants to track someone higher and/or more dangerous (*edit* And they're successful in the roll should it not be freeformed), they're asking for trouble.

Also, the spell doesn't let them see through walls or anything like that, they'd see the trail end at the door. And any sort of magical disruption would nullify it, just like it would Wizard's Mark.

Interesting... :D

Since it's an OOB spell, I'd suggest using xlevels instead of xslots for the amount of time the spell lasts.

Example:
Level 5 has 15 minutes
Level 10 has 25 minutes
Level 15 has 35 minutes
Level 20 has 45 minutes
Level 30 has 55 minutes

Or it could be left up to chance with Des and a roll done to determine the length of time.

Ooh, that could also work!

So the choice currently would be either combat application or out of combat application. I feel it makes more sense for it to be out of combat (OOB) and I really like the timeframes you suggested, Amara. It tacks on another 10 minutes compared to what I suggested, but still doesn't feel too long, overpowered or just too much.

So it'd look like this:

Arcana and/or Nature Sphere Spell: Seeker

Spell Type: Anywhere

Casting Method: other
Defending Method: other

Description: All that wanders are not always lost, but sometimes they like to hide. With a touch, the caster may mark their intended target for a time based on how the caster's level. This creates a glowing trail of magic that only the caster can see. If the target is made aware of their trail through Detect Magic or other means, they may use the Erase spell to remove it, so long as they are higher level than the caster of Seeker.

Level 5 has 15 minutes
Level 10 has 25 minutes
Level 15 has 35 minutes
Level 20 has 45 minutes
Level 30 has 55 minutes

This allows a direct correlation of 'Experience' to how long the spell lasts. Since it's an OOB spell, it doesn't have the benefit of a roll, but isn't 'permanent' like a Wizard Mark, so should it require OOC consent to track someone?

Yeah, add that on in for sure!

Hey, yaknow what? I had this wicked thought pop into my head as I was sitting here reading over your post, sippin' on some coffee.

Instead of OOB, let's pop it into Anywhere.
That would give allowances for scuffles happening, where the loser of said scuffle could inadvertently put that spell
on the attacker and possibly get some sort of revenge later... :D

OR, I don't know, maybe ones' crush walked in and the user was able to get close enough to touch and track them down later.
All kinds of possibilities.

Oh that's a really good idea. And makes absolute sense. I mean, if you're fighting someone or several and the target of your ire runs, you really want to chase them down (for revenge or maybe some good old fashion hatefucking). I'll edit the post!
