Halfmoon's Wizard Mark has long been a crescent moon, waxing. That would be the crescent as it appears 2-3 days after the new moon, forming a J shape (not a C shape). Most often it is placed on the wrist or the upper part of the breast of the females to whom Halfmoon lays claim.
Yes, I know that is not really a half moon, however, the name, Halfmoon, is just a common tongue corruption of the high elf's true name which signifies the waxing moon in its first few days.
